Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Design native-feeling mobile experiences for the Road App and other field-facing tools across both iOS and Android, adhering to each platform’s conventions while knowing when to converge or diverge in design approach.
- • Own mobile user flows end to end—from research and interaction design to visual design, prototyping, and clear engineering handoff—with accountability for outcomes after launch.
- • Conduct direct user interviews and observations with drivers, dispatchers, and back-office staff to ground design decisions in real-world field operations.
- • Plan and execute usability testing on mobile interfaces, gathering feedback from real users and iterating on designs before and after release.
- • Design for challenging field conditions including one-handed use, sunlight exposure, glove compatibility, intermittent connectivity, and high-frequency repetitive tasks.
- • Work within and extend the company’s design system built on M3-based semantic tokens, ensuring mobile components remain consistent and white-label-ready across all hauler customers.
- • Prototype to communicate design intent effectively and leverage AI tooling throughout the design process to accelerate insight-to-solution workflows while maintaining design judgment as the guiding force.
- • Translate ambiguous problems into shipped solutions by synthesizing research, mapping complex user flows, and documenting decisions with clarity so engineering can build without guesswork.
- • Monitor post-launch performance through usage metrics and behavioral data to drive iterative improvements rather than handing off and moving on.
- • Maintain a focus on the hard parts of user flows: configuration states, edge cases, empty states, error handling, and validation logic—not just the ideal “happy path.”
- • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure design fidelity during implementation and remain engaged throughout the shipping cycle.
- • Balance utilitarian B2B functionality with moments of higher-craft polish when user experience demands it, adapting style and detail to context and user need.
- • Communicate design rationale clearly through documentation, presentations, and feedback loops, ensuring transparency in decision-making across product and engineering teams.
- • Stay accountable for product outcomes, not just screen deliverables, by tracking how features perform in real usage and leading iterative improvements over time.
- • Design with restraint, prioritizing clarity and efficiency over decoration, ensuring interfaces are intuitive for users working in fast-paced, high-distraction environments.
🎯 Requirements
- • Portfolio showcasing shipped mobile work across iOS and Android with clear evidence of impact, iteration, and outcomes—not just handoff artifacts.
- • Fluency in iOS and Android design conventions (Material Design) and mobile interaction patterns, with an eye for minimalism and functional clarity.
- • Experience designing complex user flows including configuration, edge, empty, and error states—not just ideal paths.
- • Comfort conducting user research and usability testing independently, seeking real feedback rather than designing in isolation.
- • Proficiency in using design systems with semantic tokens and component-based workflows.
- • Demonstrated command of AI-assisted design tools to accelerate workflows while maintaining design judgment and ownership.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive contractor compensation.
- • Meaningful product challenge with direct access to real-world customers and field users.
- • Real ownership: your work will ship quickly and be used daily by essential service operators.
- • Fast-moving, well-funded company where product design directly impacts business and customer outcomes.
