Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the future of remote neurodiagnostics as a Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist at Northwestern Medicine’s nationally ranked Neurological Testing Center. From your secure, HIPAA-compliant home lab you will independently conduct comprehensive EEG, long-term video-EEG, evoked potentials, and emerging neurodiagnostic studies for a diverse patient population across Illinois and neighboring states, ensuring every recording meets or exceeds ACNS, ASET, and Joint Commission standards.
- • Own a daily caseload of 8–12 studies using cutting-edge digital amplifiers, cloud-based acquisition platforms, and AI-assisted spike-detection algorithms. You will perform real-time electrode montage optimization, maintain impedance below 5 kΩ, and eliminate artifact to keep signal integrity above 95 %—decisions that directly influence diagnostic accuracy, treatment pathways, and patient safety.
- • Serve as the primary clinical liaison for patients and families, delivering age-appropriate education, calming pre-test anxiety, and reinforcing safety protocols through secure video and audio channels. Your empathetic, culturally responsive communication style increases compliance, reduces repeat studies, and elevates the overall patient experience, contributing to Press Ganey scores in the 90th percentile.
- • Collaborate in real time with epileptologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and critical-care teams to triage urgent orders, identify critical findings such as non-convulsive status epilepticus, and escalate emergent events within minutes via encrypted messaging and live video consults. Your rapid response shortens time-to-treatment and improves neurological outcomes across Northwestern Medicine’s seven-hospital system.
- • Maintain meticulous documentation in Epic EMR, including technical logs, artifact annotations, and preliminary reports that comply with CPT coding (95816, 95951, 95957) and support accurate charge capture. Your attention to detail keeps the center in the 90th percentile for national quality and revenue-cycle benchmarks while ensuring seamless continuity of care.
- • Present complex cases and mentor junior technologists during weekly virtual case conferences, co-authoring evidence-based protocol updates that are rapidly deployed across the enterprise. Your thought leadership shapes best practices that reach thousands of patients annually and positions the center as a premier referral destination for rare and complex disorders.
- • Drive continuous quality improvement by analyzing equipment downtime, patient-satisfaction surveys, and turnaround-time metrics. Lead or support at least one formal QI project each year—recent successes include a 30 % reduction in electrode reapplications through an innovative skin-prep algorithm and a 12-minute decrease in average hookup time via standardized supply caddies.
- • Stay at the forefront of neurodiagnostics by completing quarterly vendor-led training on emerging technologies such as high-density EEG, TMS-EEG coupling, and wearable seizure-detection devices. Your commitment to lifelong learning ensures the center remains an early adopter and magnet for high-acuity referrals.
- • Rotate through on-call coverage one weekend every six weeks, providing 24/7 remote troubleshooting support to bedside technologists in the ED and ICU. Your availability safeguards uninterrupted service for critical patients while earning additional call pay and preserving work-life balance.
- • Champion Northwestern Medicine’s diversity, equity, and inclusion mission by adapting communication styles to meet cultural, linguistic, and cognitive needs. Contribute to telehealth outreach programs that extend neurodiagnostic services to underserved rural communities, reducing geographic barriers to specialty care and improving population health.
🎯 Requirements
- • Current credential as a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) or equivalent neurodiagnostic certification
- • Minimum of two years of full-time experience performing routine and long-term EEG studies in an acute-care or epilepsy-monitoring setting
- • Demonstrated proficiency with digital EEG acquisition systems, electrode application techniques, and artifact recognition/elimination
- • Epic EMR or comparable electronic health record experience with accurate CPT coding and documentation practices
- • Strong high-speed internet connection and ability to maintain a secure, distraction-free, HIPAA-compliant home workspace
🏖️ Benefits
- • $5,000 sign-on bonus paid within the first 90 days of employment
- • Fully remote schedule with flexible day-shift hours and no mandatory weekends outside of occasional call rotation
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage beginning day one of employment
- • 401(k) with up to 6 % employer match and immediate vesting, plus additional pension plan participation
- • Annual continuing-education stipend of $2,500 plus paid time off for conferences and specialty certifications
