• • As a Remote Database Administrator (DBA) for MariaDB plc, you will be at the forefront of supporting and optimizing the critical database infrastructure that powers a vast array of everyday applications, touching the lives of billions. • • Your primary role will involve providing expert-level remote DBA services to a diverse international customer base. Each customer presents unique deployments and challenges, ensuring that your day-to-day work is varied and intellectually stimulating. You will be instrumental in ensuring customer success by meticulously monitoring database health, proactively identifying and implementing performance and durability enhancements, and swiftly resolving any issues that arise.
• • A significant aspect of your responsibilities will include assisting customers in designing robust database architectures and implementing best practices. This encompasses performing essential tasks such as database upgrades, configuring and monitoring backup strategies, and providing critical support during recovery operations. You will leverage advanced troubleshooting skills and a creative problem-solving mindset to address complex technical scenarios.
• • Automation is a key focus for this role. You will be expected to identify repetitive DBA tasks and develop automated solutions, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing manual effort. This proactive approach to system management will contribute significantly to the team's overall productivity and the quality of service delivered to clients.
• • Working within a "virtual" team environment, you will rely heavily on remote communication and collaboration tools such as email, Slack, SSH, and web-based platforms. Prior experience and comfort in this telecommuting setting are highly valued, as effective remote collaboration is essential for success.
• • To ensure continuous support for our global customer base, this position requires flexibility and occasional availability for work during nights, weekends, and holidays. However, the company utilizes its global team structure to distribute this workload equitably, minimizing the impact on individual team members.
• • You will be responsible for managing SkySQL customers across various cloud environments, ensuring their database solutions are optimized and reliable. This includes setting up comprehensive monitoring systems and conducting periodic health checks, providing detailed reports on customer system performance and status.
• • Contributing to the broader MariaDB community is encouraged. You will have opportunities to share your expertise through blogging and other social media channels, further establishing yourself as a thought leader in the database space.
• • You will also play a role in the internal development of MariaDB by assisting the team in building new tools and enhancing existing features around the MariaDB ecosystem. Furthermore, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of the Remote DBA team's practices and methodologies, helping to shape the future of our service delivery.
• • To guarantee customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs), you must be prepared to be on call as needed. The preferred shift rota is Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday, with flexibility for other schedules that include weekend coverage being desirable.
• • While the role is primarily remote, there may be occasional requirements for international travel for company-related meetings, necessitating flexibility in this regard.
