Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join the nation’s premier court-reporting partner—eScribers—where your home office becomes the courtroom. Since 2005, our founder-court-reporters built a company trusted by federal, state, and local tribunals from Alaska to Dublin. Today we handle thousands of proceedings daily, and we need sharp, tech-savvy professionals to capture the spoken word with precision and impartiality.
- • As a Remote Digital Court Reporter you will be the unseen guardian of the record. You’ll connect to virtual hearings, arbitrations, depositions, and public meetings via Zoom, WebEx, or proprietary platforms, start multi-channel recordings, monitor audio quality in real time, annotate speaker IDs, and create timestamped log notes that attorneys and judges rely on for life-changing decisions.
- • Your daily docket is diverse: one morning you may log a 30-minute child-support hearing, the afternoon a six-hour patent-infringement deposition, and the evening a town-council emergency session. Each proceeding demands the same laser focus, because a missed word can alter custody, cost millions, or rewrite legislation.
- • You control the courtroom from your keyboard. Using eScribers’ cloud-based capture suite you’ll adjust individual mic levels, flag crosstalk, insert inaudible markers, and apply our AI-enhanced speech engine to generate first-pass transcripts that you then review for 98 %+ accuracy before certifying and uploading to our secure portal.
- • Accuracy is only half the story; neutrality is the other. You must remain invisible—no reactions, no side comments—while still being assertive enough to stop a hearing when audio drops or counsel speaks off-mic. Think of yourself as the audio engineer, court clerk, and silent referee rolled into one.
- • Scheduling is flexible yet deadline-driven. You pick the hearings you want from a live calendar that updates 24/7. Accept a job, and you commit to be online five minutes early, remain until the gavel falls, and deliver the certified transcript within the SLA—often same-day, never more than 48 hours.
- • Growth is built in. After 90 days you may opt into advanced training: realtime stenotype overlay, expedited daily copy, or international arbitration protocols. Top performers are fast-tracked to mentor new reporters and can earn premium “red-badge” status reserved for high-stakes Supreme Court appeals and multi-language proceedings.
- • You’ll never work alone. A dedicated production manager is one Slack message away, and our 24/7 tech-support hotline means a dropped connection is fixed in minutes, not hours. Monthly virtual town halls connect you with colleagues across 42 states and three continents to share best practices, new software features, and the occasional meme.
- • Impact is tangible. The transcripts you certify become evidence on appeal, enable deaf participants to read live captions, and preserve the historical record for future generations. When a wrongly convicted client is freed because the appellate court relied on your flawless record, you’ll know your keystrokes mattered.
- • Compensation is production-based: you earn a flat fee per proceeding plus page-rate bonuses for expedited or daily delivery. Average new reporters invoice $2,800–$3,500 per month working 25–30 billable hours; seasoned reporters routinely exceed $5,000. Payments are direct-deposited every Friday—no chasing invoices.
- • Equipment requirements are minimal but specific: a Windows 10/11 PC or Mac with 16 GB RAM, solid-state drive, dual monitors, USB audio interface, broadcast-grade headphones, and a hard-wired broadband connection (25 Mbps up/down). eScribers provides a $300 starter stipend and negotiates corporate rates on gear.
- • Security is non-negotiable. You will complete CJIS-compliant background screening, sign a confidentiality agreement, and use our encrypted VPN and two-factor authentication. Your home office must be a private space where conversations cannot be overheard; locking door preferred.
- • This is a 1099 contractor role—perfect for digital nomads, stay-at-home parents, or side-hustlers seeking courtroom drama without the commute. You control how many hours you work, which geographies you cover, and whether you specialize in quick hearings or marathon depositions.
- • If you love language, technology, and the gravity of the justice system, eScribers offers a front-row seat to democracy in action—without ever leaving your living room.
🎯 Requirements
- • Windows 10/11 or macOS computer with 16 GB RAM, SSD, dual monitors, and USB audio interface
- • Hard-wired broadband internet (25 Mbps up/down) and a private, distraction-free workspace
- • Clean criminal background and ability to pass CJIS security screening
- • Exceptional English listening comprehension and typing speed of 60+ WPM
- • Comfortable learning new software quickly and troubleshooting basic audio issues
- • Available to attend live hearings Monday–Friday between 8 AM–6 PM in any U.S. time zone
🏖️ Benefits
- • Work 100 % remotely from any U.S. location with flexible, self-selected scheduling
- • Competitive per-proceeding pay plus page-rate bonuses and weekly direct deposit
- • $300 equipment stipend and corporate discounts on headsets, audio interfaces, and backup drives
- • Access to ongoing professional development, certification courses, and career path to senior reporter or mentor roles
