- • Own and pursue a research agenda to improve the proactivity and ability of models to further user goals within ChatGPT and future products.
- • Build robust evaluations to track and measure improvements in model personalization and agentic capabilities.
- • Design, implement, test, and debug code across the research stack to support novel machine learning approaches.
- • Collaborate closely with research and product teams across OpenAI to influence the technical direction of personalized AI features.
- • Develop and apply post-training methods including reinforcement learning, dataset creation, and evaluation frameworks to enhance model behavior.
- • Work on advancing models’ capacity to anticipate user needs in real time, adapt to shifting goals and preferences, and build a deeper, evolving understanding of individuals.
- • Engage with large-scale machine learning codebases to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues.
- • Contribute to the technical foundation of an AI assistant that is highly personalized, collaborative, and proactive in supporting user objectives.
- • Participate in a hybrid work model requiring three days per week in the San Francisco office.
- • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate research insights into product-ready capabilities.
- • Maintain alignment with OpenAI’s mission of ensuring general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity through safe, human-centered development.
- • Contribute to the creation of datasets specifically designed to train and evaluate proactivity in AI systems.
- • Apply deep knowledge of machine learning applications to solve challenges in personalization and user goal achievement.
- • Operate in a dynamic, technically complex environment requiring rapid iteration and high autonomy in research execution.
- • Debug and optimize models to improve their responsiveness, adaptability, and contextual awareness in real-world usage scenarios.
- • Contribute to the evaluation of model performance against human-aligned goals and ethical safety standards.
🎯 Requirements
- • Deep understanding of machine learning and machine learning applications
- • Working knowledge of LLM post-training and evaluation approaches
- • Passion for or experience thinking about personalization and enabling users to achieve their goals
- • Comfort diving into large ML codebases to debug
- • Thrive in a dynamic and technically complex environment
- • Strong ML engineering skills and research experience with novel, highly capable models
