📋 Description

• As a Roaming IREG Engineer at Airalo, you will play a critical role in ensuring seamless global connectivity for over 20 million travellers by designing, optimizing, and maintaining the roaming infrastructure that powers the world’s first and largest eSIM store. Your work directly impacts the reliability and performance of Airalo’s network services, enabling instant, secure connections from purchase to arrival in over 200 countries and regions.
• Day to day, you will: monitor and analyze roaming traffic patterns using IREG (International Roaming Exchange) standards to detect anomalies and optimize routing; collaborate with mobile network operators (MNOs) and hubs to negotiate and implement roaming agreements that improve coverage and reduce latency; troubleshoot complex interconnection issues across SS7, Diameter, and GTP-C protocols to ensure end-to-end service integrity; develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to validate roaming functionality before deployment; contribute to the design of scalable, fault-tolerant systems that support Airalo’s rapid global expansion; participate in on-call rotations to provide rapid response to network incidents affecting customer experience; and continuously evaluate emerging technologies (such as 5G standalone roaming and eSIM provisioning enhancements) to future-proof the network architecture.
• You will join Airalo’s fully remote Networks team, a distributed group of engineers passionate about redefining global connectivity through innovation and customer-centric engineering. The team operates with high autonomy, ownership, and a strong culture of experimentation, where engineers are encouraged to reverse-engineer solutions from ambitious product goals and drive technical excellence without bureaucratic overhead.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in telecommunications signaling protocols, international roaming frameworks, and large-scale network optimization — gaining hands-on experience with carrier-grade systems that few engineers get to work on. You will have the opportunity to shape Airalo’s long-term network strategy, influence partnerships with Tier-1 operators, and build systems that set new benchmarks for reliability and performance in the eSIM and MVNO space.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience working with IREG, IR.21, IR.25, or similar GSMA roaming exchange standards and procedures
• Strong technical background in telecom signaling protocols including SS7, Diameter (S6a, S13, Gx), and GTP-C
• Experience troubleshooting and optimizing roaming traffic in live production environments involving multiple MNOs and clearinghouses
