đź“‹ Description

  • • The Rugby Match Day Technician role at Hawkeye Innovations Limited is a critical freelance position responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of Hawk-Eye’s medical, citing, and TMO video replay systems during live rugby matches in Limerick and across Ireland. This role directly contributes to player safety, match integrity, and broadcast quality by enabling real-time decision-making for medical staff, citing commissioners, and match officials through reliable technology deployment and support.
  • • You will be the on-site technical expert responsible for the full lifecycle of Hawk-Eye system operations on match days — from pre-match installation and calibration to live monitoring, troubleshooting, and post-match data clipping — working under pressure in a live broadcast environment where precision and reliability are non-negotiable.
  • • Arrive approximately 6.5 hours before kick-off to unload, install, and configure Hawk-Eye hardware and software systems at the venue, including cameras, servers, monitors, and networking equipment, following strict standardized procedures.
  • • Conduct comprehensive pre-match system checks, including signal integrity, latency testing, playback functionality, and synchronization with broadcast feeds, documenting all results in accordance with Hawk-Eye’s operational protocols.
  • • Provide real-time technical support during the match to the Match Day Doctor, Citing Commissioner, Television Match Official (TMO), and analysts, ensuring instant access to replays, multi-angle views, and event tagging for medical, citing, and disciplinary decisions.
  • • Accurately log and clip all medical, citing, and TMO events identified by matchday personnel using Hawk-Eye’s event management software, maintaining a precise, timestamped record for post-match review and regulatory compliance.
  • • Liaise continuously with the Hawk-Eye Remote Support team to report system status, receive guidance on anomalies, and escalate issues promptly, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid resolution.
  • • Coordinate with host broadcasters’ technical teams to align Hawk-Eye video outputs with broadcast requirements, including signal routing, format compatibility, and timing synchronization.
  • • Monitor hardware (servers, storage, displays) and software (replay engines, UI, network services) performance throughout the match, identifying and addressing degradation or faults before they impact operations.
  • • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues in real time using diagnostic tools, logs, and remote support guidance — including rebooting systems, reseating cables, reconfiguring networks, or applying patches — while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • • Assume full ownership of the Hawk-Eye system on-site, acting as the primary point of contact and representing the company with professionalism, confidence, and adherence to brand standards.
  • • Hawkeye Innovations Limited is a global leader in sports technology, providing cutting-edge video officiating and performance analysis solutions to elite rugby competitions worldwide, including the United Rugby Championship (URC), Premiership Rugby, Top 14, and World Rugby events.
  • • The Limerick-based team operates as part of a wider international network of match-day technicians, remote engineers, and sports technology specialists, fostering collaboration across borders while maintaining a strong local presence and deep community ties to Irish rugby.
  • • You will develop advanced, hands-on expertise in live sports broadcast technology systems, including video over IP, real-time replay engines, and medical event tracking platforms — skills highly transferable to broadcast engineering, esports, and live event technology sectors.
  • • This role offers significant professional growth through exposure to high-stakes, live-event environments, cultivating resilience, rapid problem-solving, and stakeholder communication abilities under pressure — qualities valued across technology, sports, and media industries.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Technical background with comfort in computer hardware and software setup, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • • Ideally studying or holding a university degree in science, technology, engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
  • • Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a proactive, responsible attitude and ability to work on initiative
  • • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise professionally with medical staff, match officials, broadcasters, and remote support teams
  • • Ability to thrive in high-pressure, procedural, live broadcast environments with excellent time management and adaptability to irregular weekend and evening work
  • • Genuine interest in rugby and/or rugby analysis to contextualize technical support within the sport’s nuances

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive freelance rate of 130 EUR per match day, reflecting the specialized nature of the role and irregular hours
  • • Opportunity to work at premier rugby events across Ireland and potentially internationally, including URC, European club competitions, and World Rugby fixtures
  • • Gain invaluable, niche experience in live sports technology systems used at the highest level of professional rugby
  • • Be part of a supportive, innovative team culture that values innovation, teamwork, and passion for sports
  • • Flexible freelance structure allowing you to balance this role with studies, other work, or personal commitments during the September–June season
