Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Phantom Technologies, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) for a 6-month contractor position to join their dynamic Wallet Platform team. This role is fully remote, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere.
- • At Phantom, we are building the modern money app, a revolutionary financial tool used by tens of millions globally. Our product seamlessly integrates everything users need to manage, spend, and grow their money, offering the power and flexibility of crypto-enabled finance without the inherent complexity, making it accessible to mainstream consumers.
- • We pride ourselves on combining industry-leading security with thoughtfully designed, user-friendly tools. This commitment to speed, control, and an exceptional user experience has driven our rapid growth, attracting a community of over 20 million users. Phantom has achieved significant recognition, ranking #1 in the Google Play Store's finance category and consistently appearing in the Top 50 apps across all categories, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with globally recognized consumer technology platforms.
- • This SDET role is not a traditional Quality Assurance position. Instead, it's an engineering role where the primary output is ensuring the highest level of quality. You will be embedded within a team that operates with startup velocity, shipping production financial software at an accelerated pace. Your core mission will be to enable speed and correctness to coexist, acting as a proactive enabler rather than a bottleneck.
- • You will be instrumental in designing, building, and owning robust test infrastructure for our mission-critical financial systems. This includes intricate payment flows, secure KYC (Know Your Customer) pipelines, complex card transaction handling, and the underlying compliance frameworks that ensure regulatory adherence and user trust.
- • **Core Ownership Responsibilities:**
- • Take full ownership of test coverage for your assigned squad's features, encompassing unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) testing strategies.
- • Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive automated test suites for both new functionalities and existing features, ensuring continuous validation.
- • Conduct thorough manual and exploratory testing on features prior to their release, identifying potential issues that automated tests might miss.
- • **Automation & Infrastructure Development:**
- • Write high-quality, reliable, and maintainable automated tests across various layers, including UI, API, and regression test suites.
- • Actively contribute to the evolution and enhancement of our shared test automation framework, promoting reusability and efficiency.
- • Seamlessly integrate automated test suites into our Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, ensuring tests execute reliably with every code commit and deployment.
- • **Quality Process Leadership:**
- • Define, document, and champion robust QA standards within your squad, fostering a culture of quality.
- • Meticulously review Pull Requests (PRs) to assess testability, identify potential test coverage gaps, and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- • Proactively identify and address flaky tests, taking ownership of their resolution to ensure test suite stability and reliability.
- • **Collaborative Partnership:**
- • Foster a strong partnership with product engineers to "shift testing left," integrating test design and development alongside feature development, rather than as a post-development activity.
- • Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to clarify acceptance criteria and requirements before the development cycle begins, ensuring alignment and reducing ambiguity.
- • Early and effectively surface quality risks, potential blockers, and concerns throughout the sprint cycle to enable timely mitigation.
- • **Your Impact in the First 90 Days:**
- • **First 30 Days:** Map existing test coverage against known failure modes, identify the top three critical gaps, and ship at least one meaningful test suite that effectively catches a real class of bugs.
- • **First 60 Days:** Assume ownership of CI quality gates for at least one pod's test suite and establish baseline quality metrics, including coverage percentage, flakiness rate, and regression detection latency.
- • **First 90 Days:** Measurably reduce the bug escape rate (bugs found in production vs. caught in testing) and present a comprehensive test infrastructure roadmap to the engineering team.
- • Success in this role will be measured by key metrics such as bug escape rate, time-to-detection for regressions, test flakiness rate (targeting < 2%), manual testing time eliminated through automation, and CI pipeline reliability and performance.
