đź“‹ Description
- • As a Security Operations Engineer at Jane Technologies, you will serve as the frontline of the company's security program, acting as the first point of contact for security questions, monitoring alerts, triaging incidents, and participating in on-call rotations to ensure timely and effective response to security events. This role is critical because it bridges the gap between security and engineering teams, fostering trust and collaboration so that security is perceived as an enabler rather than an obstacle, ultimately strengthening the organization's overall security posture through partnership and empathy.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include owning and managing the security service desk by responding to internal security inquiries with clarity and care, continuously monitoring and triaging alerts across the company's security tooling stack to distinguish genuine threats from noise, and maintaining accurate documentation of investigations and outcomes for team learning and process improvement.
- • You will actively reduce operational toil by experimenting with AI and automation to streamline repetitive security workflows, building simple internal tools that enhance team efficiency, and sharing both successes and failures to promote collective learning and innovation within the security team.
- • You will participate in on-call rotations, independently resolving incidents within your scope, escalating complex issues thoughtfully to the appropriate engineers (such as Enterprise or Cloud Security), and treating each incident as a learning opportunity to improve response procedures and cross-team collaboration.
- • You will maintain and optimize security tool configurations, update runbooks based on real-world experience, and proactively identify gaps or misconfigurations that could lead to alert fatigue or missed threats, ensuring the security infrastructure remains effective and reliable.
- • You will collaborate closely with Enterprise Security and Cloud Security engineers, contributing to a culture of open communication and mutual trust by delivering findings constructively, following through on commitments, and helping engineering teams feel supported rather than scrutinized when addressing security concerns.
- • In this role, you will develop deep expertise in security operations, including alert analysis, incident response, and cloud security fundamentals, while gaining hands-on experience with MITRE ATT&CK, log analysis, and detection rule tuning—skills that are highly transferable and in demand across the cybersecurity industry.
- • You will grow your ability to communicate complex security concepts clearly and empathetically to non-technical audiences, a critical skill for advancing into senior security, engineering liaison, or security management roles where influence and trust-building are paramount.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2–4 years of hands-on experience in security operations, SOC analysis, incident response, or a similar security role, with demonstrated ownership and progressive skill development.
- • Practical experience writing, testing, and tuning detection rules, investigating alerts, and reducing false positives to improve signal-to-noise ratio in security monitoring.
- • Foundational knowledge of security principles, including common attack patterns, the MITRE ATT&CK framework, incident response lifecycle, and log analysis techniques.
- • Basic proficiency in cloud security concepts and hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including understanding of IAM, security groups, logging, and cloud security posture management.
- • Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with a collaborative mindset that builds trust, delivers challenging feedback constructively, and encourages proactive engagement from engineering and operations teams.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive annual salary range of $98,400 to $147,600, with most new hires starting at $116,900, reflecting Jane’s commitment to paying for growth and recognizing individual contribution and impact.
- • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage, designed to support the well-being of employees and their families across Canada, the US, and the UK.
- • Opportunities for continuous learning and career development through regular conversations with managers, access to training resources, and encouragement to experiment with AI and automation in security workflows.
- • A remote-first work culture that enables flexibility and work-life balance, with team members distributed across Canada, the US, and the UK, united by a shared mission to help the helpers.
- • Exposure to innovative uses of AI in security and operations, allowing you to explore cutting-edge tools that reduce toil and amplify impact in a forward-thinking, high-growth SaaS environment.
- • A supportive, learning-oriented culture where humility, adaptability, and resilience are valued, and where employees are encouraged to ask questions, share failures, and grow together through transparency and psychological safety.
