📋 Description

• Senior AI Engineer at WEX Inc. is a pivotal role within a fast-growing AI Engineering team tasked with integrating artificial intelligence into the core of the company’s products and business strategy, directly impacting customer outcomes and enabling scalable innovation.
• You will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert, driving the end-to-end development of production-grade AI/ML systems while mentoring junior engineers and shaping technical standards across the organization.
• Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate complex customer challenges into scalable AI strategies and technical architectures that align with WEX’s mission to enhance decision-making and deliver groundbreaking fintech solutions.
• Architect, build, and deploy high-performance AI/ML platforms and tools, including LLMs and RAG-based systems, ensuring reliability, security, and seamless integration into existing product ecosystems.
• Lead the full lifecycle of advanced model development—from experimentation and fine-tuning to production deployment and monitoring—using modern frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, and LlamaIndex.
• Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to enable automated, reproducible, and secure model serving at scale.
• Proactively monitor system health, lead incident response for critical AI services, and drive architectural improvements to eliminate bottlenecks and enhance resilience.
• Mentor L1/L2 engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and vendor solutions, prototype innovative approaches, and advise leadership on adopting cutting-edge advancements to maintain WEX’s competitive edge.
• The AI Engineering team operates at the intersection of innovation and impact, collaborating closely with domain experts, product managers, and software engineers to deliver AI-driven features that solve real-world financial workflow challenges.

• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in production ML systems, generative AI, and MLOps while gaining visibility into how AI transforms fintech at scale.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as an AI/ML Engineer, Data Scientist, or Software Engineer with a strong focus on production ML systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; Master’s or PhD in AI/ML preferred.
• Proven expertise in taking AI solutions from concept to high-scale production using Python, Java, C#, or GoLang.
• Deep experience with Generative AI, LLMs, RAG architectures, prompting strategies, fine-tuning, and agentic workflows.
• Strong system design skills for distributed systems and microservices, particularly for model serving at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions with non-technical stakeholders and drive consensus.
• Experience in financial or fintech industry is a plus.
