📋 Description

• As a Senior AI Engineer specializing in NLP and Training Data at Coupa Software Inc., you will play a pivotal role in advancing the company’s AI-driven spend management platform by building the foundational data infrastructure that powers model development and innovation. Your work will directly contribute to improving the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of AI models used across Coupa’s product suite, enabling smarter, more profitable business decisions for millions of users worldwide.
• You will design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines that generate, label, validate, and curate high-quality training datasets for natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning models, ensuring data integrity and relevance for both classical ML classifiers and large language model (LLM) integrations.
• Collaborate closely with data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams to understand model requirements and translate them into robust data engineering solutions that support continuous model training, evaluation, and deployment across Coupa’s AI ecosystem.
• Implement automated data labeling workflows using active learning, weak supervision, and human-in-the-loop techniques to efficiently scale annotation efforts while maintaining high precision and recall in training data.
• Develop data validation frameworks and quality metrics to monitor dataset consistency, bias, drift, and coverage, ensuring that training data remains representative of real-world spend patterns across diverse industries and geographies.
• Optimize data storage and retrieval systems for training data, leveraging cloud-based technologies (such as AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern data formats (e.g., Parquet, TFRecord) to support high-throughput model experimentation and versioning.
• Contribute to the evolution of Coupa’s AI platform by researching and integrating emerging NLP techniques, data augmentation strategies, and foundation model adaptation methods to improve model performance with limited labeled data.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in data engineering, MLOps, and responsible AI, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration within the AI team.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including legal, privacy, and compliance teams to ensure that all data sourcing, labeling, and usage adheres to Coupa’s data governance policies and global regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
• Drive innovation by identifying gaps in current data pipelines and proposing architectural improvements that enhance scalability, reduce latency, and lower the cost of training data production at scale.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field; PhD preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on building pipelines for NLP or machine learning workloads.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Flink, or Beam.
• Expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and ETL/ELT pipeline design.
• Familiarity with NLP concepts, tokenization, embeddings, and common libraries (e.g., spaCy, Hugging Face Transformers, NLTK).
• Experience with data labeling tools (e.g., Labelbox, Scale AI, Snorkel) and active learning methodologies.
