📋 Description

• As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Airwallex, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the reliability, scalability, and security of the company’s global cloud infrastructure, directly enabling the next phase of growth for a fintech platform serving over 200,000 businesses worldwide.
• You will lead the design and evolution of DevOps strategy, ensuring infrastructure supports high-performance, secure, and scalable services while fostering cross-team alignment on tools, practices, and standards across global engineering teams.
• Day to day, you will architect and optimize Kubernetes (K8s) clusters for domain services, focusing on performance, scalability, and resilience to support mission-critical financial workloads.
• You will develop and enhance observability and detection capabilities—leveraging metrics, logging, and tracing—to reduce mean time to detect (MTTD) and resolve (MTTR) incidents without compromising agility or security.
• You will design and improve self-service platforms and tooling that empower engineering teams to deploy, monitor, and manage services independently, increasing velocity and reducing operational toil.
• You will drive consensus on DevOps practices and tooling across geographically distributed feature teams, evolving shared understanding into standardized, documented processes that improve consistency and efficiency.
• You will manage service mesh implementations (particularly Istio), including traffic management, security policies, and service discovery, to ensure secure and efficient inter-service communication.
• You will collaborate with platform, security, and SRE teams to implement cost optimization strategies, access controls, and compliance measures aligned with enterprise-grade financial infrastructure requirements.
• You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to technical documentation, and participate in incident response and post-mortems to foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
• You will work with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) to optimize resource utilization, negotiate service levels, and ensure infrastructure aligns with business objectives and regulatory expectations.

🎯 Requirements

• Hands-on experience with at least one programming or scripting language (Python, Ansible, shell) for automation and infrastructure management.
• Proven background in software engineering or infrastructure/platform engineering, with experience in cost management, access control, and self-service platform development.
• Demonstrated expertise in operating large-scale Kubernetes clusters and Istio service mesh, including traffic management, service discovery, and service registry in production environments.
• Minimum of 5–6 years of relevant experience for Senior level (8+ years for Staff level), with ability to independently solve complex coding and system design problems.
• Strong understanding of public cloud architectures (AWS, GCP, Azure) and cloud-native principles, including networking, storage, and security best practices.
• Experience implementing observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo) and driving incident reduction through proactive monitoring and alerting.
