Senior Embedded Firmware Manager, Propulsion and Battery

📋 Description

• • Lead and mentor a team of embedded firmware engineers focused on propulsion, motor control, and battery management systems, fostering a collaborative, high-ownership engineering culture.
• • Stay hands-on by actively contributing to firmware architecture, code reviews, and production-level implementation alongside your team, ensuring code quality and system reliability.
• • Drive the end-to-end software development lifecycle for propulsion and battery firmware, including requirements gathering, architectural design, implementation, validation, CI/CD, and production support.
• • Architect and develop safety-critical firmware for distributed embedded systems running on multiple ECUs, with emphasis on correctness, real-time performance, and low-power operation.
• • Lead complex vehicle integration workstreams involving feature deployment across microcontrollers and subsystems, ensuring seamless communication and coordination between hardware and software components.
• • Collaborate closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, and Test Engineering teams to design and document SW integration workflows, including ECU handshaking, feature implementation, and root cause analysis.
• • Champion and enforce best practices in embedded firmware development, including code reviews, version control, static analysis, linting, and automated testing within a CI/CD pipeline.
• • Manage project priorities, resource allocation, and timelines while clearly communicating risks, blockers, and progress to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• • Engage with third-party vendors and contract engineering firms by defining clear technical specifications, managing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with internal standards.
• • Ensure compliance with functional safety standards such as MISRA, ISO 26262, or equivalent in the development of automotive-grade firmware for safety-critical systems.
• • Apply deep expertise in low-level embedded development, including writing and debugging drivers, bootloaders, and hardware bring-up routines for resource-constrained environments.
• • Utilize real-time operating systems (RTOS) in safety-critical applications, ensuring deterministic behavior and minimal latency in motor control and battery management subsystems.
• • Debug complex embedded systems in real-world environments using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG probes to identify and resolve hardware-software interactions.
• • Maintain familiarity with model-based design toolchains like MATLAB/Simulink, particularly as used by the Controls team for code generation and system simulation.
• • Apply strong understanding of electric drivetrains, battery technology, and vehicle communication protocols including CAN, ADC, IMU, and force sensors in firmware development.
• • Promote a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration within the firmware team and across engineering disciplines.
