Senior Embedded Software Engineer

📋 Description

• • Own the end-to-end design, development, and continuous evolution of the Linux-based embedded gateway application that sits at the heart of Lytx’s next-generation telematics platform. You will architect and implement the application layer that orchestrates data from GPS, accelerometers, LTE modems, OBD-II/CAN buses, multi-channel video, and audio streams, ensuring millisecond-level determinism and 24/7 reliability in safety-critical environments.
• • Build and harden high-throughput data collection pipelines capable of ingesting concurrent sensor feeds, lossless video encoding, and real-time vehicle telemetry while operating under tight CPU, memory, and power budgets typical of ARM-based edge devices (Raspberry Pi, Ambarella, Rockchip, etc.).
• • Develop secure, bandwidth-efficient transmission protocols to push curated events, rich media clips, and metadata to the Lytx cloud over LTE/5G, implementing adaptive QoS, delta compression, and zero-touch OTA updates that keep thousands of vehicles continuously connected across global networks.
• • Integrate and optimize AI inference engines (TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, custom C++ kernels) that run on-device to detect risky driving behaviors, trigger instant in-cab alerts, and generate evidence packages—all within a 5 W power envelope and without cloud dependency.
• • Champion rigorous engineering standards: write modern C++17/20 code, enforce MISRA/CERT guidelines, drive unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop tests, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that deliver reproducible builds and automated canary deployments.
• • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, cloud, data science, and product teams to translate fleet safety requirements into robust software features, participating in design reviews, sprint planning, and blameless post-mortems.
• • Debug complex, multi-threaded systems using JTAG, logic analyzers, and kernel tracing tools; profile CPU cache behavior, memory fragmentation, and thermal throttling to squeeze every ounce of performance out of resource-constrained hardware.
• • Provide technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers, authoring architecture decision records, and establishing coding patterns that scale across multiple product lines and international markets.
• • Ensure compliance with automotive cybersecurity standards (ISO/SAE 21434) and privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) by implementing secure boot, encrypted storage, and tamper-evident logging.
• • Influence the product roadmap by analyzing field data, proposing new edge AI capabilities, and rapidly prototyping features that demonstrably reduce collision rates and insurance costs for our global customer base.
