Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead and develop a cross-functional engineering team across multiple product domains including consumer marketplace, provider-facing scheduling tools, interoperability infrastructure, revenue cycle tooling, and AI-augmented workflows.
- • Remain a hands-on technical contributor, dedicating approximately 30% of your time to writing production code, leading design reviews, and pairing with engineers on complex technical problems.
- • Define and enforce engineering standards across code quality, system design, testing discipline, deployment practices, and incident response to ensure reliability and scalability.
- • Drive the team’s AI-native operating model by deploying AI agents in production workflows, building evaluation frameworks to measure output quality, and coaching engineers to use AI as a primary development instrument rather than an occasional tool.
- • Partner closely with Product, Operations, and Data teams to refine roadmaps, push back on scope where necessary, and ensure the team is focused on the highest-leverage problems at any given time.
- • Own the architecture of your team’s systems, making deliberate build-vs-buy decisions, managing technical debt, and ensuring the stack supports the company’s 100% YoY growth trajectory.
- • Contribute to Scan.com’s broader engineering culture through interview loops, cross-team design reviews, engineering all-hands, and the institutional knowledge that enables a small team to punch above its weight.
- • Within 90 days, establish clear team expectations, a functioning operating rhythm, and earn the trust of your team through technical credibility and investment in their growth.
- • Implement a repeatable AI-native framework across agents, evaluations, and development workflows that measurably increases engineering throughput without degrading quality.
- • Achieve complete technical ownership of your team’s systems, including architecture, observability, failure modes, scalability constraints, and debt profile, with a prioritized plan for critical improvements.
- • Demonstrate visible individual contribution by shipping production code, driving at least one significant architectural decision, and proving you can still execute at the individual contributor level.
- • Build organizational trust with Product, Operations, and Data teams, earning the authority to push back on scope, advocate for technical investment, and represent Engineering in cross-functional prioritization.
- • Grow engineers on your team by enabling promotions, expanding scope, and receiving credit from team members for their professional development.
- • Operate with high ownership: initiate solutions without being asked, propose path-forward solutions to problems, and treat team outcomes as personally accountable.
- • Contribute to a healthcare technology environment with complex regulatory and interoperability constraints, accelerating your impact through domain familiarity.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience managing and growing engineering teams in a startup environment with limited resources and high-output expectations.
- • Genuine AI-native fluency: deployed AI agents in production engineering workflows, designed evaluation frameworks for non-trivial tasks, and coached teams to use AI as a primary development tool.
- • Active technical contributor with strong engineering fundamentals: currently writing production-quality code in a modern backend or full-stack language, leading senior-level system design discussions, and not out of code for more than a year.
- • Experience in a scaling healthcare technology company, with familiarity with regulatory environments, interoperability constraints, and operational complexity of healthcare delivery.
- • Strong cross-functional instincts: partnered effectively with Product and Operations, negotiated scope without burning relationships, and translated technical constraints to non-technical audiences with fidelity.
- • Track record of growing engineers: team members have been promoted, expanded scope, and credited you with material development in their careers.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary range, plus performance bonus and equity
- • 401k
- • Healthcare, Vision, and Dental
- • All equipment needed to do your role effectively
- • Flexible and remote/hybrid working options
- • Personal development budgets
- • 18 days PTO plus public holidays
- • 10 paid sick days
- • Inclusive policies designed by the team, for the team
