Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the end-to-end electrical engineering lifecycle for GoDaddy’s global repair-services hardware portfolio, from root-cause analysis of field failures through design-for-reliability improvements that directly reduce customer downtime and support costs.
  • • Lead cross-functional failure investigations on server, storage, and network hardware returned from our 20+ data centers and millions of customer sites; use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, thermal chambers, and X-ray imaging to pinpoint component-, board-, and system-level defects.
  • • Translate field data into actionable design changes—redesign power-distribution networks, swap marginal components for higher-grade alternatives, and update PCB layouts to improve signal integrity and manufacturability—cutting RMA rates by double-digit percentages.
  • • Drive the creation and continuous refinement of electrical test procedures used by technicians in our Santa Clara repair depot and partner facilities worldwide; document test plans, boundary-scan scripts, and automated test fixtures that ensure consistent quality and rapid turnaround.
  • • Partner with supply-chain, procurement, and commodity-engineering teams to qualify alternate sources for at-risk or end-of-life components, securing multi-year supply continuity while meeting cost, performance, and regulatory targets.
  • • Serve as the technical authority during design reviews for next-generation server and infrastructure products, injecting lessons learned from the repair pipeline to prevent repeat failures and improve mean time between failures (MTBF) by 30 %+.
  • • Mentor junior engineers and technicians on advanced troubleshooting techniques, schematic interpretation, and safety protocols, building a culture of deep technical excellence across the repair-services organization.
  • • Develop predictive-failure algorithms that leverage telemetry from our fleet—temperature, voltage margin, SMART logs—to flag units likely to fail within 90 days, enabling proactive replacement and eliminating surprise outages for customers.
  • • Collaborate with software and firmware teams to implement in-band and out-of-band diagnostics that run in production environments, reducing the need for physical depot repair and shrinking total cost of ownership.
  • • Present monthly reliability dashboards to executive leadership, translating complex electrical failure modes into business-impact metrics such as customer churn, SLA penalties avoided, and annualized cost savings exceeding $2 M.
  • • Champion environmental and regulatory compliance (RoHS, REACH, CE, UL) for all repaired and refurbished hardware, ensuring GoDaddy’s sustainability commitments and legal obligations are met without compromising performance.
  • • Continuously scan the industry landscape for emerging component technologies, advanced cooling solutions, and predictive-maintenance tools, piloting small-scale trials that could evolve into fleet-wide reliability programs.
  • • Own the capital-equipment roadmap for the repair lab—specifying new thermal chambers, high-speed scopes, and automated optical inspection systems—balancing technical capability with budget discipline and ROI justification.
  • • Act as the primary liaison between GoDaddy and ODM/JDM partners during escalations, leveraging your deep electrical expertise to negotiate design fixes, warranty claims, and long-term reliability roadmaps that protect GoDaddy’s interests.
  • • Contribute to open-source hardware initiatives and publish white-papers or conference talks that enhance GoDaddy’s reputation as a thought leader in large-scale infrastructure reliability and sustainable repair practices.
