Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the end-to-end design of how millions of users physically and digitally interact with the Oura Ring and future hardware products, shaping the tactile, visual, and behavioral touchpoints that turn raw biometric data into life-changing insights.
- • Own the full-stack hardware-software interaction model—from the moment a user unboxes their ring, through daily on-body sensing, to the instant insights surface in the mobile app—ensuring every micro-interaction feels effortless, trustworthy, and even delightful.
- • Translate complex physiological signals (HRV, temperature, SpO₂, sleep stages) into intuitive gestures, LED patterns, haptic feedback, and app flows that guide users toward healthier routines without ever overwhelming them.
- • Partner daily with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers to define sensor placement, antenna geometries, battery budgets, and thermal profiles that directly influence how users perceive comfort, accuracy, and reliability.
- • Run rigorous usability studies across diverse body types, skin tones, ages, and cultures to validate ring sizing algorithms, charger ergonomics, and gesture recognition accuracy—then iterate rapidly with 3-D printed prototypes and high-fidelity mockups.
- • Craft the long-term interaction roadmap for next-gen form factors (earables, patches, clip-ons) while ensuring backward compatibility and a consistent Oura design language that scales from jewelry-grade aesthetics to clinical-grade precision.
- • Establish and evangelize interaction guidelines, pattern libraries, and motion vocabularies that empower cross-functional teams to ship cohesive experiences at the speed of weekly firmware releases and monthly app updates.
- • Champion accessibility and inclusivity by designing alternative interaction modes for users with limited dexterity, visual impairments, or neurological differences—turning the ring into a truly universal health companion.
- • Leverage real-world data analytics to identify behavioral bottlenecks (e.g., why 12 % of users remove the ring during sleep) and design targeted interventions that improve nightly wear adherence and long-term retention.
- • Present strategic design visions to executive leadership, board members, and external research partners, translating nuanced human-factors insights into clear business impact and revenue opportunities.
- • Mentor junior interaction and industrial designers, instilling a culture of user-obsessed iteration, ethical data use, and fearless experimentation that keeps Oura at the forefront of consumer health innovation.
- • Collaborate with clinical researchers to ensure every interaction meets FDA and CE regulatory expectations for future medical-grade features, while still feeling magical in everyday life.
- • Balance beauty and function by refining micro-textures on the ring’s inner sensors that reduce skin irritation, selecting PVD coatings that age gracefully, and tuning LED brightness so bedroom partners aren’t disturbed at 2 a.m.
- • Influence go-to-market storytelling by crafting demo flows, packaging rituals, and retail try-on experiences that communicate the ring’s value in under 60 seconds—turning skeptics into lifelong advocates.
