📋 Description

• As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at Fieldguide, you will be at the forefront of shaping and safeguarding the technological backbone of our rapidly growing company. This pivotal role demands a seasoned professional who can architect, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure. You will be instrumental in building the platforms and systems that empower our engineering teams, ensuring the reliability and integrity of our services, which are foundational to the trust we provide our customers in the complex world of assurance and audit.
• Your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of our core platform infrastructure. This includes the meticulous design and construction of systems that can effortlessly scale to meet increasing demands while maintaining unwavering reliability and security. You will be the architect of environments that our product and engineering teams depend on daily, ensuring they have the stable and performant foundation needed to innovate and deliver exceptional value.
• A significant aspect of this role involves the strategic use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools, such as Terraform. You will be responsible for developing and managing IaC to guarantee consistency, repeatability, and auditability across all our cloud environments. This approach is critical for minimizing manual errors, accelerating deployments, and ensuring that our infrastructure adheres to the highest standards of compliance and security.
• You will play a key role in defining the long-term technical vision and making critical architectural decisions for Fieldguide’s infrastructure. This involves staying ahead of industry trends, evaluating new technologies, and making informed choices that will position our infrastructure for future growth and innovation. Your expertise will guide us in building a resilient and future-proof platform.
• A core part of your mission will be to build reusable platforms, sophisticated abstractions, and AI-enabled tooling. These components are designed to elevate the capabilities of our engineering teams, raising the baseline for productivity, reliability, and efficiency across the organization. By providing powerful, easy-to-use tools, you will enable faster development cycles and higher quality outputs.
• You will be the guardian of our system's health, continuously monitoring and optimizing for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency. This involves implementing and refining comprehensive metrics, logging, and alerting frameworks using industry-leading tools like Datadog and AWS CloudWatch. Proactive identification and resolution of potential issues will be paramount to maintaining seamless operations.
• Ensuring the security and compliance of our infrastructure is non-negotiable, especially given our focus on trust and regulatory environments. You will implement and enforce best practices for identity and access management, network segmentation, secure secrets handling, and robust vulnerability management. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining the trust our customers place in us.
• You will be a leader in our incident response efforts, taking ownership of critical incidents, driving thorough root cause analyses, and implementing structural, long-term improvements to prevent recurrence. This includes developing and refining our incident management processes and fostering a culture of learning from failures.
• Mentoring and collaborating with other engineers and tech leads will be a vital part of your role. You will foster a culture of shared responsibility, reliability, automation, and continuous improvement, helping to elevate the skills and practices of the entire engineering team.
• You will also be responsible for supporting disaster recovery and business continuity planning, ensuring the high availability and resilience of our critical systems. This involves developing and testing robust strategies to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of unforeseen disruptions.
• Finally, you will be responsible for comprehensive documentation of our infrastructure design, key architectural decisions, and operational procedures. This transparency is crucial for team enablement, knowledge sharing, and ensuring that our infrastructure is well-understood and maintainable by the wider team.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience constructing complex cloud solutions, with a strong emphasis on multiple AWS services.
• Proficiency in provisioning and configuring cloud services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, and experience with the AWS CLI / API.
• Proven ability to design and implement effective monitoring, alerting, and log aggregation solutions using tools such as Datadog and AWS CloudWatch (or similar like New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana).
• Solid understanding of data systems, encompassing both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience developing and maintaining software or infrastructure in security and regulatory compliance environments (e.g., SOC 2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA).
• Comfort and willingness to participate in on-call support rotations to ensure 24/7 availability of services.
• A genuine passion for mentoring, coaching, and elevating the skills of other engineers.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
• Deep expertise in designing systems and processes that demonstrably enhance the speed and effectiveness of engineering teams.
• Capability to clearly articulate technical strategy and complex concepts to both management and executive leadership.
