📋 Description

• As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at LiveKit, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining and scaling the core infrastructure that powers real-time, multimodal AI experiences used by industry leaders such as OpenAI, Spotify, and Meta. Your work directly impacts the reliability and performance of a platform handling over 3 billion calls annually, making your contributions essential to the seamless operation of AI-driven applications worldwide.
• You will design, implement, and optimize foundational systems that ensure high availability, low latency, and fault tolerance across LiveKit’s globally distributed architecture. This includes taking ownership of critical infrastructure components, driving improvements through data-informed decision-making, and ensuring systems are both scalable and maintainable under increasing load.
• Day to day, you will build and own the infrastructure that LiveKit’s products run on, working directly in the Go codebase to implement SRE practices such as monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning. You will lead incident response efforts, including serving as an Incident Commander during high-severity events, and conduct post-mortems to drive systemic improvements.
• You will develop and maintain automation tools and configuration management systems to efficiently manage hundreds of Kubernetes clusters across multiple regions and cloud providers, ensuring consistent deployment, scaling, and operations. This includes integrating with infrastructure vendors and advocating for or implementing custom solutions when off-the-shelf tools fall short of real-time performance requirements.
• You will establish and refine metrics, SLIs, and SLAs to quantify system reliability and performance, using this data to prioritize work, justify investments, and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders. Your analysis will directly influence roadmap planning and engineering trade-offs across the organization.
• You will collaborate closely with product and platform engineering teams to ensure infrastructure supports rapid feature development without compromising stability, acting as a trusted advisor on scalability, observability, and operational best practices.
• LiveKit’s engineering team is deeply technical, mission-driven, and committed to solving hard problems in real-time systems. • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in large-scale distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and SRE principles while gaining visibility into how real-time multimedia stacks operate at global scale. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the reliability foundation of a platform that is becoming critical infrastructure for the next generation of AI applications.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience managing complex, multi-region distributed systems built on container orchestration platforms, particularly Kubernetes, in production environments.
• Strong software engineering background with proficiency in Go (or willingness to rapidly become proficient), including experience contributing to large codebases and implementing SRE-related features.
• Demonstrated ability to lead incident management, including acting as an Incident Commander, with experience in post-incident analysis and driving long-term reliability improvements.
• Hands-on experience with Linux networking, overlay networks, and Kubernetes CNIs, along with low-level troubleshooting skills for latency-sensitive workloads.
• Track record of building and maintaining automation and configuration management systems to operate infrastructure at scale.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
