Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and deliver the low-latency, high-throughput backbone that will power Nexus’s Layer-1 blockchain and its flagship enshrined DEX. You will own the end-to-end design of consensus pipelines, transaction ordering engines, and networking layers that must rival centralized exchanges in speed while remaining fully decentralized.
- • Drive the roadmap from public testnet through mainnet launch and beyond, translating cutting-edge research into production-grade systems that can handle institutional-grade volume without compromising on security or determinism.
- • Optimize every layer of the stack—kernel bypass networking, lock-free data structures, memory-mapped I/O, and zero-copy serialization—to squeeze microsecond-level improvements out of each hop in the critical path.
- • Integrate zero-knowledge proofs directly into consensus and settlement flows, collaborating with cryptography researchers to ensure that privacy and verifiability never become bottlenecks.
- • Establish rigorous observability, chaos testing, and continuous benchmarking frameworks so the team can detect regressions before they reach production and prove performance claims to external auditors and traders.
- • Mentor mid-level engineers through architecture reviews, pair programming, and career development plans, raising the bar for code quality, testing discipline, and incident response across the entire engineering organization.
- • Partner with product, security, and research teams to define SLAs, threat models, and economic fairness guarantees that will set new industry standards for decentralized trading infrastructure.
- • Champion a culture of reproducible builds, deterministic simulations, and automated audits so that every release is provably correct and every performance claim is backed by data.
- • Contribute to open-source tooling that reduces developer onboarding time to under ten minutes from zero to first signed transaction, accelerating ecosystem growth and community adoption.
- • Shape the technical hiring strategy, interview loops, and onboarding curriculum as the team scales from a tight founding group to a world-class distributed engineering organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6–10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years focused on low-latency, high-throughput infrastructure such as HFT systems, real-time exchanges, or similar performance-critical distributed platforms
- • Expert-level proficiency in Rust (preferred), C++, Go, or another systems language, with demonstrated ability to write lock-free, allocation-free code that runs at microsecond scale
- • Deep understanding of network protocols (TCP/UDP, kernel bypass, RDMA), concurrency primitives, and distributed consensus algorithms (HotStuff, Tendermint, or equivalent)
- • Proven track record of shipping secure, production-grade systems with measurable performance gains and 99.9 %+ availability under strict correctness constraints
- • Nice-to-have: prior experience in DeFi infrastructure, Layer-1 blockchain development, MEV mitigation, transaction fairness protocols, zero-knowledge proof systems, or formal verification
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive base salary plus meaningful ownership in the Nexus protocol through equity and token allocations
- • Comprehensive health insurance for employees and their dependents, including dental and vision coverage
- • 401(k) plan with company matching to support long-term financial wellness
- • Annual learning and conference budget, flexible remote-first work, and the opportunity to define engineering culture at an early, high-impact stage

About Nexus Mutual
Nexus Mutual is a decentralized insurance protocol built on Ethereum that enables members to share risk through discretionary coverage products. Founded in 2017 and headquartered in London, the platform uses a mutual structure governed by NXM token holders who collectively underwrite smart-contract failure, exchange hacks, and other crypto-specific risks. Members stake tokens to assess claims and receive rewards, while policyholders purchase cover priced algorithmically based on staking levels and historical loss data. The protocol operates transparently on-chain, replacing traditional insurers with peer-to-pool risk sharing and automated claims assessment.
