đź“‹ Description

  • • At OLIX, we are at the forefront of a technological revolution, building the next paradigm in computing with our Optical Tensor Processing Unit (OTPU). As the demand for AI accelerates at an unprecedented pace, the limitations of current hardware are starkly apparent. We are addressing this critical infrastructure gap by developing a fundamentally new approach that promises unparalleled speed and energy efficiency, positioning OLIX to become the most significant company of the next decade.
  • • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Laser Engineer to join our pioneering team in London. This pivotal role is dedicated to the design, development, and optimization of production-grade laser devices, specifically Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSELs), for seamless integration into our groundbreaking OTPU systems. This is a hands-on, device-level position with a deep focus on III-V semiconductor laser technology, encompassing the entire lifecycle from epitaxial design and device architecture to fabrication transfer, rigorous characterization, packaging interaction, and long-term reliability.
  • • As a Senior Laser Engineer, you will be instrumental in translating fundamental physics principles into high-performance, manufacturable VCSEL arrays capable of operating at extreme speeds and densities. Your expertise will be crucial in pushing the boundaries of what's possible in optical computing, directly contributing to the system-level performance metrics that define our technology's advantage.
  • • Your responsibilities will be broad and impactful, including taking ownership of the end-to-end design and development of VCSEL devices and arrays tailored for our high-density optical systems. This involves defining and meticulously optimizing epitaxial layer structures, including critical components like quantum wells, Distributed Bragg Reflectors (DBRs), oxidation layers, and innovative current confinement schemes. You will engage directly with external epitaxy suppliers and foundries, playing a key role in specifying requirements, reviewing progress, and iterating on wafer growth runs to ensure the highest quality material.
  • • A significant part of your role will involve driving comprehensive device simulations across optical, electrical, and thermal domains. This analytical approach will inform design decisions and predict performance characteristics. You will be responsible for the thorough characterization of fabricated devices, employing a range of techniques to assess key parameters such as Light-Current-Voltage (LIV) performance, spectral behavior, modulation bandwidth, overall efficiency, thermal rollover characteristics, and crucially, device reliability.
  • • You will be tasked with developing innovative strategies to enhance current confinement, achieve ultra-high-speed modulation capabilities, and ensure exceptional array uniformity. This requires a deep understanding of the interplay between electrical design and optical output.
  • • Collaboration is at the heart of our success. You will work closely with our dedicated electronics teams to ensure seamless integration of VCSELs with custom driver circuits, paying close attention to impedance matching and signal integrity. Furthermore, you will interface extensively with our packaging and optics teams, ensuring optimal optical coupling efficiency, robust mechanical tolerance, and effective thermal management within the final product.
  • • Establishing rigorous reliability methodologies is paramount. This includes designing and executing accelerated life testing protocols and conducting detailed failure analysis to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Your insights will directly influence product longevity and performance guarantees.
  • • You will contribute significantly to the development of multi-generation device roadmaps, ensuring that our laser technology roadmap remains tightly aligned with the evolving system architecture requirements and the ambitious goals of OLIX.
  • • Finally, you will play a vital role in supporting the critical transition of developed devices from Research & Development (R&D) into pilot and ultimately, volume manufacturing, ensuring scalability and manufacturability.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of optical computing, working with a world-class team on a technology that will redefine the digital landscape. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of semiconductor laser technology and making a tangible impact, we encourage you to apply.
