📋 Description

• Own the design, implementation, and ongoing oversight of Upvest’s liquidity risk framework as a BaFin-regulated investment firm operating at scale across Europe.
• Lead advanced quantitative modeling and analysis of complex risk data to provide strategic insights on liquidity, funding, and stress testing (ILAAP).
• Design and implement comprehensive mitigation strategies and robust risk controls across core business processes to ensure regulatory compliance and operational resilience.
• Own high-impact risk projects, including the architecture and deployment of next-generation risk models and tools, initially for Financial and Non-Financial domains with expansion into broader Risk Management.
• Serve as the primary expert for financial risk inquiries, translating complex quantitative findings into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership, external partners, and regulators (BaFin).
• Collaborate closely with Treasury, Finance, IT GRC, Outsourcing, Compliance, and Operations teams to scale Upvest’s risk infrastructure and align risk practices across departments.
• Mentor junior team members and drive cross-functional initiatives to build capability and consistency in liquidity risk management practices.
• Ensure Upvest maintains a robust and compliant liquidity position as the company expands its investment products and services across European markets.
• Work with regulatory frameworks including CRR, LCR, NSFR, ILAAP, and MaRisk to uphold compliance and proactively address evolving regulatory expectations.
• Build and operate quantitative risk models and cash flow forecasting tools, leveraging SQL and Python where applicable to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
• Bridge the gap between Financial Risk and Non-Financial/Operational Risk frameworks to create integrated risk management approaches.
• Communicate risk exposure, mitigation strategies, and capital adequacy positions to C-level executives and external stakeholders with clarity and authority.
• Contribute to the development of Upvest’s future-proof risk infrastructure by identifying gaps, proposing innovations, and implementing scalable solutions.
• Participate in company-wide events including UpFest, offsites, dinners, and the Holiday party to foster team cohesion and celebrate organizational milestones.
• Leverage Upvest’s AI tools budget of €20,000 annually to access cutting-edge modeling and analytical platforms for risk analysis and decision support.
• Utilize personal development budget to pursue certifications, courses, or training aligned with liquidity risk management, regulatory compliance, or financial technology.
• Work remotely across Europe or from Upvest’s hubs in Berlin, London, or Tallinn with full flexibility to choose location based on productivity and preference.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years in risk management or treasury within a regulated bank or financial institution
• Strong understanding of European/BaFin regulatory frameworks (CRR, LCR, NSFR, ILAAP, MaRisk)
• Hands-on experience building or operating quantitative risk models and cash flow forecasting tools
• Proven track record of driving complex projects across domains like IT GRC, Outsourcing, or Compliance
• Exceptional ability to mentor junior colleagues and articulate complex financial risks to C-level executives and external partners
• Fluency in English; German language skills are a strong advantage
