Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Spexi Geospatial Inc., you will lead the development of experimental models and prototype systems that push the boundaries of geospatial imagery analytics, bridging early-stage research and production to deliver high-quality, well-structured code that serves as the foundation for the next generation of Spexi’s geospatial intelligence products.
  • • You will design, train, and productionize models for aerial-image classification, object detection, and 2D/3D segmentation; spearhead integration of state-of-the-art foundation models like SAM2; engineer change detection and structure-change models; develop predictive models for trend forecasting; build Generative AI capabilities including multimodal models and natural-language query systems; design and operate scalable ML pipelines on AWS using SageMaker, S3, and Step Functions; track research breakthroughs in NeRFs, Gaussian Splatting, and diffusion models; collaborate with photogrammetry and platform teams to ensure geospatial accuracy; and establish rigorous evaluation benchmarks for real-world validation.
  • • Spexi is a drone technology company building the Spexi Network, the world’s first Fly-to-Earn platform powered by drones and blockchain, enabling drone pilots to earn rewards for collecting aerial imagery and organizations to access high-resolution geospatial data for remote monitoring of infrastructure, natural resources, and more—empowering better decisions about the physical world without requiring drone ownership or pilot hiring.
  • • In this role, you will translate cutting-edge research into production-ready systems, gain deep expertise in geospatial AI and foundation models, lead innovation in multimodal and generative ML for aerial imagery, and shape the technical direction of Spexi’s geospatial intelligence products while working in a collaborative, mission-driven startup environment.

🎯 Requirements

  • • M.S. and 5+ years of work experience in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Remote Sensing, or a related quantitative field
  • • Proven experience in research-to-production translation: ability to read research papers, replicate findings, rapidly prototype, and distill into production-ready features
  • • At least 3 years of applied ML and computer vision experience transitioning models from research to production, ideally involving geospatial, aerial, or satellite imagery
  • • Deep expertise in predictive AI for imagery including classification, object detection, and segmentation, with strong understanding of modern feature-extraction methods
  • • Working knowledge of SAM2 or similar algorithms including fine-tuning, prompt design, and distillation, with understanding of strengths and failure modes in aerial datasets
  • • Hands-on experience developing Generative AI capabilities such as multimodal RAG, vision-language models, and diffusion-based pipelines, with ability to ship complete systems end-to-end
  • • Production experience operating ML pipelines on AWS, specifically utilizing SageMaker for training and hosting, alongside broader AWS data orchestration services
  • • Experience managing large, complex imagery datasets in cloud environments while optimizing models for real-world performance, throughput, and cost-efficiency

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Remote-friendly environment (with a hub in Vancouver, Canada)
  • • Flexible hours
  • • Medical, dental, and vision health benefits
  • • Inclusive employer that values workplace equality, supports diversity, and respects individual qualities
