• • At onX, our AI practice is in an active state of development. We are continuously experimenting, learning, and refining how AI should manifest within our suite of apps. We are seeking a senior designer who thrives in ambiguous spaces and possesses the ability to define foundational interaction models, experience principles, and reusable patterns that will serve as a cornerstone for future AI-driven product development across the organization.
• • As a Senior Product Designer, you will be instrumental in designing and prototyping AI-enabled experiences from the earliest stages of exploration through iterative refinement. Your work will ensure that sophisticated AI capabilities are effectively aligned with solving meaningful customer problems, enhancing the outdoor adventure experience for our users.
• • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Engineering, and Research. Together, you will explore, test, and refine AI-driven workflows, ensuring they are not only useful and trustworthy but also deeply grounded in genuine user needs and behaviors.
• • This role is an individual contributor position within our dedicated UX Design & Research team. While you may own one or more AI-focused initiatives, you will also significantly influence broader design direction. This influence will be exerted through the creation of shared patterns, comprehensive documentation, and compelling storytelling that educates and inspires the wider product organization.
• • You will report directly to the Head of UX Design & Research and work in close partnership with the dedicated AI Foundations team, contributing to the strategic direction of AI integration at onX.
• • Lead design efforts in nascent, AI-enabled problem spaces where established best practices are still emerging. This critical responsibility includes shaping novel interaction models, defining appropriate experience boundaries for AI, and translating complex, AI-driven capabilities into intuitive, usable, and delightful experiences for our diverse customer base.
• • Engage in iterative design cycles that prioritize rapid learning and signal gathering in early phases. Simultaneously, you will consider how your design decisions contribute to the creation of durable UX foundations that can be leveraged and scaled over time. This may involve contributing to the development of design patterns, core principles, and comprehensive guidance that supports the broader adoption of AI across the entire product organization.
• • Apply a systems-thinking approach to anticipate potential downstream effects, identify edge cases, understand failure modes, and address trust implications associated with AI-enabled features. In close collaboration with Product and Engineering stakeholders, you will help clarify critical trade-offs, understand technical constraints, and advocate for the responsible and ethical use of AI within customer-facing workflows.
• • Conduct lightweight, integrated research as an intrinsic part of your design process. This includes conducting user interviews, performing usability testing, and synthesizing findings. You will partner effectively with our dedicated UX Research team when deeper, more specialized investigation is required.
• • Play a key role in elevating AI fluency and understanding within the broader design organization. This involves demonstrating practical applications of AI tools within design workflows, clearly articulating their strengths and limitations, and modeling a thoughtful, responsible, and user-centered approach to AI adoption.
• • Contribute to the development of onX’s design system, ensuring that AI-powered features are integrated seamlessly and consistently with our existing product experience, while also pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
• • Champion user-centered design principles throughout the AI development lifecycle, ensuring that technology serves user needs and enhances their outdoor adventures.
• • Foster a collaborative environment, actively seeking feedback and contributing to design critiques to elevate the quality of work across the team.
• • Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in AI and UX design, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the team.
• • Contribute to the strategic vision for AI at onX, helping to define how AI can unlock new opportunities and create differentiated value for our users.
• • Own the end-to-end design process for AI-driven features, from initial concept and user research to detailed design, prototyping, and post-launch iteration.
• • Develop a deep understanding of our users' needs, motivations, and pain points, particularly as they relate to leveraging technology for outdoor activities.
• • Advocate for the user throughout the product development process, ensuring that AI features are intuitive, reliable, and enhance the overall onX experience.
• • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to articulate the value proposition of AI-powered features to our user base.
• • Mentor junior designers and share best practices for designing with AI, contributing to the growth and development of the design team.
• • Drive innovation by exploring novel applications of AI that can enhance the onX platform and create new user experiences.
• • Ensure that all AI-driven designs adhere to ethical guidelines and privacy best practices, building and maintaining user trust.
