Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Senior Product Designer at College Board, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education technology by leading design initiatives that directly impact millions of students and educators nationwide. Your work will ensure that assessment platforms are not only technically robust but also intuitive, inclusive, and aligned with the organization’s mission to expand access to higher education.
- • You will drive product discovery and design strategy by applying design thinking to complex education ecosystems, conducting generative and evaluative research through user interviews, usability testing, and surveys, facilitating co-creation workshops, turning behavioral and operational data into actionable insights, influencing roadmap prioritization by connecting user needs with business goals and mission, advocating for human-centered and inclusive design principles, and using strategic storytelling to communicate vision and value across stakeholders.
- • You will execute end-to-end product design by collaborating with product and engineering teams to translate concepts into detailed, production-ready artifacts including user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs; applying and contributing to design systems for visual and functional consistency; writing and testing content using plain language for clarity and accessibility; conducting usability and A/B tests to validate design decisions; performing accessibility audits to meet inclusive standards; designing responsive, mobile-first experiences for web and native apps; experimenting with generative AI tools to support ideation and prototyping; and leveraging Figma (preferred), Miro, and Dovetail for design, documentation, and testing.
- • You will collaborate across cross-functional teams by rapidly iterating with product managers, engineers, researchers, and leadership through daily partnership; participating in standups, sprint planning, design reviews, and QA cycles; translating design decisions into clear specifications for implementation; presenting ideas, research findings, and designs with confidence and clarity; and contributing to organization-wide design operations through shared tools, systems, and templates.
- • You will grow design culture and your own expertise by mentoring junior designers or peers through pairing and feedback; continuously investing in personal development and sharing emerging tools, trends, and provocations; supporting design education efforts such as lunch & learns and design critiques; contributing to internal documentation; and participating in hiring and onboarding activities to strengthen the design team.
- • You will join a mission-driven engineering and design team at College Board that builds and evolves the technology powering trusted education programs used by millions of students annually. Operating at significant scale and public responsibility, the Core Assessment Platform team combines modern cloud-native engineering with platform modernization, security hardening, and large-scale digital delivery to function as an experiment factory—testing assumptions and iterating based on evidence rather than tradition—offering rare freedom to shape mission-critical systems while delivering meaningful public impact.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in designing for complex, content-rich systems within high-stakes educational environments, gain hands-on experience influencing product strategy at the intersection of user needs and organizational mission, and become a trusted advocate for inclusive, accessible, and ethically grounded design—positioning yourself as a leader who can balance big-picture systems thinking with meticulous execution to drive measurable impact on learner outcomes.
🎯 Requirements
- • A portfolio of your work must be included in your application; applications without a portfolio link will not be considered.
- • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., interaction design, HCI, industrial design, information science, social sciences, computer science, graphic design) and/or equivalent years of work experience.
- • 3–7 years of experience in product or service design, with proven experience designing for complex, content-rich websites and applications.
- • Proficiency in design thinking and human-centered methodologies, with the ability to reframe challenges and translate insights into actionable design direction.
- • Strong skills in information design, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI design, with fluency in tools like Figma (preferred), Miro, and Dovetail.
- • Experience applying generative and evaluative research methods, along with facilitation skills to lead workshops and co-creation sessions.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive hiring range of $95,000–$130,000, with salary determined by location, experience, and market data to ensure fairness and transparency.
- • Comprehensive compensation package grounded in qualifications, experience, impact, and market benchmarks, offered by a self-sustaining nonprofit committed to fair and competitive pay.
- • Open, transparent conversations about compensation, benefits, and workplace culture throughout the hiring process, supported by College Board’s careers page resources.
- • Remote work flexibility with the option to be fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office) for candidates living near College Board offices.
- • Opportunity to travel 3–5 times per year to College Board offices or client/user sites to engage with stakeholders, fostering connection and real-world insight.
- • Authorization to work in the United States is required.
