- • As a Senior Product Designer at NerdWallet, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our student loan marketplace, a critical area for millions seeking financial clarity. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the end-to-end design process for private student loan and refinance experiences across NerdWallet, CollegeFinance.com, and RefiRate.com. You will be tasked with transforming complex, highly regulated financial products into intuitive, user-centered journeys that foster trust and empower individuals to make informed borrowing decisions. This is a senior-level position where your strategic thinking and execution will directly contribute to measurable business outcomes through rigorous experimentation, deep user insights, and seamless collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Growth teams.
- • You will operate at both strategic and executional levels, playing a pivotal role in shaping product direction, identifying untapped opportunities, and delivering polished, high-impact user experiences. Your work will be crucial in moving key business metrics and enhancing user satisfaction within the student loan and refinancing space. This role reports directly to the Senior Product Manager, providing a clear line of communication and strategic alignment.
- • A core responsibility will be to lead the complete design lifecycle for private student loan and refinance offerings. This encompasses everything from initial discovery and user research to final launch and post-launch optimization. Your goal will be to create user journeys that not only increase engagement and conversion rates but also build long-term trust with our users. This involves a deep understanding of user needs, market dynamics, and the regulatory landscape.
- • You will be a key driver of experimentation, particularly within high-intent marketing funnels. This includes optimizing SEM/SEO landing pages, comparison tools, and application flows. By designing and analyzing A/B tests and other experiments, you will uncover new growth avenues and continuously improve the performance of these critical user touchpoints. This data-driven approach is essential for maximizing user acquisition and conversion.
- • Defining and executing robust research strategies will be paramount. You will be responsible for uncovering actionable insights into user behavior, validating design concepts, and informing product decisions at scale. This involves employing a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods to ensure our designs are grounded in user needs and validated by data.
- • A significant aspect of your role will involve partnering closely with Product Management to translate high-level strategy and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) into well-defined design problems, testable hypotheses, and measurable success metrics. This ensures that design efforts are tightly aligned with business objectives and contribute directly to strategic goals.
- • You will design clear, compliant financial workflows, including applications, disclosures, and prequalification tools. This requires a delicate balance between adhering to strict regulatory requirements and ensuring a seamless, user-friendly experience. Your ability to simplify complexity will be key to building user confidence.
- • You will be empowered to identify and shape 0→1 opportunities in ambiguous or nascent spaces. This involves bringing structure, strategic direction, and creative problem-solving to early-stage initiatives, helping to define new product areas and explore innovative solutions.
- • Cross-functional collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with Engineering, Content, and SEO teams to ensure that the experiences you design are not only user-centric but also technically feasible, accessible, performant, and optimized for search engines. This holistic approach ensures a high-quality, integrated product.
- • You will influence product and design decisions by articulating a strong, data-backed rationale. Using insights from research and experimentation, you will drive alignment among stakeholders and ensure that decisions are made based on evidence and strategic priorities.
- • Contributing to and evolving our shared design systems and patterns across multiple properties is also part of your remit. This ensures consistency, efficiency, and scalability in our design efforts across the NerdWallet ecosystem.
- • This role is ideal for a designer who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys tackling complex problems, and is passionate about making a tangible impact on users' financial lives.
