- • Oversees and strategically manages workflows for new property and casualty business and renewals, applying advanced professionalism, technical expertise, and strict adherence to underwriting guidelines.
- • Evaluates, prioritizes, and selects insurance submissions, pricing risks to generate underwriting profit while referring or declining exposures that present excessive risk.
- • Conducts comprehensive risk assessments by analyzing coverage value, location, usage, safety features, and other relevant factors to determine risk acceptance.
- • Determines appropriate coverage limits, insurance premiums, and policy terms based on risk evaluation, ensuring active and profitable portfolio management of complex property and casualty accounts.
- • Negotiates terms and conditions with brokers, identifies and creates cross-sell opportunities for additional products, and ensures full compliance with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines.
- • Develops strategic initiatives to generate new business opportunities, maximize retention of assigned portfolios, and directly contribute to achieving organizational business targets.
- • Builds and maintains long-term, professional relationships with brokers and agents to expand the book of business and deliver superior customer service within delegated authority limits.
- • Partners with underwriting teams to foster seamless communication, optimize task coordination, and enhance overall underwriting efficiency.
- • Produces accurate premium forecasts and business plans, actively contributes to budgeting processes, and supports the achievement of performance targets.
- • Optimizes underwriting processes by introducing new technologies and aligning departmental practices with broader organizational goals.
- • Provides training and guidance to new underwriters on underwriting guidelines, processes, systems, and risk evaluation methodologies.
- • Attends industry events and stays current on property and casualty underwriting trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes, adjusting underwriting strategies accordingly.
- • Operates within prescribed state P&C and/or surplus line licensing requirements and maintains compliance with all applicable insurance regulations.
🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting
- • Bachelor’s degree required; Risk Management, Actuarial Science, or Business Administration preferred
- • Must meet minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses
- • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) preferred
- • Proven track record in portfolio management, risk assessment, and underwriting profit optimization
- • Strong negotiation skills with brokers and experience in cross-selling insurance products
