• Join MongoDB's cutting-edge Query Team as a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our state-of-the-art distributed query system. This is a unique opportunity to work on the very core of MongoDB, influencing the MongoDB Query Language (MQL) and the entire lifecycle of a query, from its initial parsing and intricate optimization to its final plan selection and execution. You will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing our sophisticated optimization and execution frameworks, as well as contributing to the development of new query language features that empower our customers to run their most critical workloads with confidence and efficiency.

Every query must be answered accurately, and as a Senior SDET Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to uphold and elevate these highest standards of quality. This will be achieved through the design, implementation, and execution of rigorous testing strategies and advanced automation. You will be a guardian of data integrity and query precision, ensuring that MongoDB continues to be the most reliable and performant database for developers worldwide.
• Your day-to-day will involve a deep dive into the complexities of a distributed database system. You will design, develop, and meticulously maintain automated tests and comprehensive testing frameworks specifically tailored for the MongoDB query engine. This includes ensuring both the correctness and performance of queries under various conditions. You will collaborate intimately with your peers, gaining a thorough understanding of new features and functionalities as they are conceived. Your insights will be crucial in ensuring these features are testable from the outset, enabling you to automate tests that cover not only the expected 'happy path' scenarios but also the challenging and critical edge cases.
• A significant part of your role will be to proactively identify, isolate, and meticulously document any bugs or issues discovered within the database query system. You will work hand-in-hand with our talented development teams, acting as a key partner in ensuring that these issues are not only resolved but that the underlying causes are understood and addressed to prevent recurrence. Your feedback will be invaluable in code reviews, where you will focus on the robustness, reliability, and testability of code changes, ensuring that quality is built-in from the ground up.
• You will also be tasked with enhancing and extending our existing automation framework. This involves improving test coverage, reducing execution times, and developing advanced tooling to aid in diagnostics and performance testing. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our testing efforts, allowing us to deliver higher quality software faster. Furthermore, you will play a critical role in reviewing and approving testing plans during the design phase of new Query team projects. Upon project completion, you will certify that all commitments regarding test coverage and quality have been met, acting as a final gatekeeper for quality.
• This role offers the chance to work in a highly dynamic and often ambiguous environment, requiring you to be adaptable, resourceful, and a proactive problem-solver. You will leverage your solid foundation in computer science, including a deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture, to tackle complex challenges. Experience with testing multi-tiered backend systems and a passion for shipping high-quality software are essential. 🎯 Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in QA automation or software development with a focus on test automation.
• Significant programming experience, with a strong preference for C/C++ or Go.
• Solid foundation in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture.
• Experience with testing multi-tiered backend or distributed systems.
• Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining custom test frameworks.
• Proficiency in writing and maintaining test automation frameworks for large codebases.
