📋 Description

• As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer on the Cloud Compute team at Affirm, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the robust, scalable, and highly available foundation of our entire platform. This fully remote role, based in Poland, places you within a critical engineering function responsible for managing all of Affirm's Kubernetes clusters. Our core mission is to provide a cloud environment that is not only reliable and available but also empowers all of Affirm's engineering teams to innovate and deploy their solutions seamlessly and efficiently.
• You will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the technical strategy for your team, with a focus on year-long objectives and driving critical, business-impacting projects to completion. This involves translating high-level goals into actionable technical plans and ensuring their successful implementation.
• Collaboration is key to success in this role. You will work closely with product management, design, and analytics teams throughout the product development lifecycle. Your input will be crucial in ensuring that technical sustainability, potential risks, and necessary trade-offs are thoroughly understood and effectively managed, leading to well-architected and resilient systems.
• You are expected to act as a force-multiplier for your team. This means defining, advocating for, and implementing best-in-class technical solutions and operational processes that enhance efficiency, reliability, and overall team performance. Your leadership will inspire and guide your colleagues.
• Taking ownership of your team’s operational excellence and availability is paramount. This includes ensuring comprehensive monitoring, establishing efficient triage rotations, developing clear and actionable playbooks, defining robust policies, implementing rigorous testing strategies, and setting up effective alerting mechanisms to support both 'keep the lights on' activities and on-call responsibilities.
• You will be instrumental in fostering a culture of quality and deep ownership within your team. This involves setting high standards for code reviews and design practices, and actively advocating for these standards beyond your immediate team through compelling writing and engaging technical talks.

• The role requires active participation in an on-call rotation, ensuring the continuous availability and reliability of Affirm's critical infrastructure. This responsibility is integral to maintaining our high standards of service.
• You will leverage your extensive experience in developing and deploying highly available distributed systems, with a strong emphasis on technologies like AWS and Kubernetes. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining and evolving our cloud infrastructure.
• You will utilize your excellent troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex issues within cloud and distributed systems environments, minimizing downtime and impact on users.
• A significant part of your contribution will involve automating deployments using Kubernetes. You will design, implement, and refine CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.
• You will be responsible for delivering major features, developing critical system components, or strategically deprecating existing functionality. This requires defining clear technical and execution plans and writing high-quality, maintainable code that is easily understood and utilized by others.

• Drive initiatives to improve the observability of our systems, enhancing our ability to monitor, analyze, and respond to incidents effectively.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, ensuring consistency and repeatability in our deployments.
• Participate in architectural reviews and provide technical guidance to other engineering teams on best practices for building and operating reliable services on Kubernetes.
• Mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow their skills and contribute more effectively to the team's goals.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in site reliability engineering, cloud computing, and Kubernetes, and advocate for their adoption where appropriate.
• You will be a key player in ensuring that Affirm's infrastructure can scale efficiently to meet the demands of our rapidly growing user base and business operations.
• Your work will directly impact the stability, performance, and security of Affirm's financial products, contributing to a seamless and trustworthy experience for our customers.
