đź“‹ Description
- • As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at GetYourGuide AG, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the platform that connects millions of travelers with unforgettable experiences across over 12,000 cities worldwide. Your work directly enables engineering teams to innovate rapidly while maintaining the stability and resilience of core services, making travel more accessible and seamless for users globally.
- • You will be part of an empowered, full-remote-capable SRE team based in Berlin, acting as "engineers for the engineers" by building, automating, and enhancing the cloud and container-based infrastructure that underpins all product features. Your contributions will help drive operational excellence, reduce toil, and foster a culture of reliability across the organization.
- • Day to day, you will: build and scale Kubernetes clusters and AWS environments to support growing traffic and service demands; ensure high availability, autoscaling, and failure recovery mechanisms are robust and tested in both production and pre-production systems; develop custom controllers using Go to automate cluster lifecycle management and reduce manual overhead; leverage Istio and Envoy to manage service-to-service communication, enforce security policies, and gain deep network observability; actively participate in infrastructure on-call rotations to respond to incidents, conduct blameless postmortems, and drive continuous improvement; champion SRE practices by mentoring teammates, improving monitoring and alerting systems, and advocating for better design and implementation of new technologies.
- • The team operates with a strong ownership mindset, collaborating closely with software engineers to provide platform guidance, troubleshoot complex distributed systems issues, and enable safe, fast experimentation. GetYourGuide’s technology stack is centered on AWS, Kubernetes, Istio, and Go, with a focus on cloud-native principles and infrastructure as code.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in large-scale container orchestration, service mesh technologies, and cloud infrastructure automation while influencing the long-term technical roadmap. You’ll have the opportunity to lead company-wide initiatives, contribute to open source projects, and grow into a technical leader who shapes how reliability is built into the fabric of the organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience building and managing Kubernetes clusters at scale in production environments, including workload scheduling, networking, storage, and security configurations.
- • Strong programming skills in Go (or another language) with a track record of writing clean, maintainable code for infrastructure automation, controllers, or operators.
- • Deep understanding of Linux operating systems, including kernel behavior, networking stack, file systems, and performance tuning.
- • Hands-on experience with AWS core services (EC2, VPC, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch) and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
- • Proficiency with Istio or Envoy for service mesh implementation, including traffic management, mTLS, observability, and security policies.
- • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex production issues quickly, with strong skills in monitoring, logging, tracing, and incident response.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Annual personal growth budget and access to mentorship programs to support continuous learning and professional development.
- • Flexible hybrid work model: three days in-office (Mon, Tue, Thu) and two days optional remote, plus 30 days per year of work-from-anywhere flexibility.
- • Monthly transportation and fitness budget to support commuting and wellness.
- • Language reimbursement program to encourage skill development in new languages.
- • Health and wellness benefits, including comprehensive medical coverage and wellness initiatives.
- • Discounts on GetYourGuide activities for you, your friends, and family.
- • Regular team events and company-wide gatherings to foster connection and collaboration.
