đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at Fivetran, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our quality assurance strategy. Your primary focus will be on designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and reliable test automation tools and frameworks. This role is critical in ensuring the high quality and integrity of Fivetran's data integration platform, a service trusted by organizations worldwide to make their data accessible and actionable.
  • • You will tackle complex testing challenges by architecting and implementing innovative solutions that enhance test stability, performance, and overall efficiency. This involves not just writing code, but deeply understanding the intricacies of distributed systems and data pipelines to anticipate and mitigate potential issues.
  • • A significant aspect of your role will be to elevate the capabilities of our quality engineering team. You will act as a mentor and coach, guiding other engineers to become best-in-class automation specialists. This includes fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring that high standards for automation are consistently met across the team.
  • • Your responsibilities will extend to reviewing technical specifications, design documents, and requirements, providing insightful, risk-focused feedback to engineering teams. This proactive approach helps identify potential quality issues early in the development lifecycle.
  • • You will be responsible for designing and evolving scalable automation frameworks, primarily using Java 11, with a strong emphasis on reliability, performance, and data correctness. This requires a deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles and best practices.
  • • Developing high-signal test strategies for complex features and automating them across various environments will be a key deliverable. This ensures comprehensive test coverage and rapid feedback loops.
  • • You will play a crucial role in improving our CI/CD pipelines by building robust validation layers. These layers are designed to prevent silent failures and regressions, ensuring that only high-quality code is deployed.
  • • A forward-thinking element of this role involves building internal tools and proof-of-concepts leveraging AI and Large Language Model (LLM) technologies. The goal is to accelerate debugging and failure triaging, generate high-quality test scenarios, detect flaky patterns or regression risks, improve log analysis and root-cause identification, and ultimately enhance developer and QA productivity.
  • • You will design AI-assisted workflows that integrate seamlessly into our existing automation and release pipelines, making them more intelligent and efficient.
  • • Experimenting with and implementing agent-based systems or LLM-powered tooling will be encouraged to streamline development and testing processes.
  • • You will actively measure and improve engineering impact through key metrics such as reliability, automation efficiency, and defect prevention signals, driving data-informed decisions.
  • • Collaboration is key; you will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to instill a culture of quality ownership and promote an automation-first mindset throughout the organization.
  • • You will be expected to have a strong understanding of distributed systems risks, including schema drift, idempotency failures, data inconsistencies, and race conditions, and to build automation that effectively addresses these challenges.
  • • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS and GCP, and containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes, is essential for building and deploying scalable solutions.
  • • Experience with backend automation frameworks and tools like Terraform, WireMock, and RestAssured will be leveraged in your daily work.
  • • While not strictly required, knowledge of database testing and ETL/data pipeline validation is considered a strong plus, given Fivetran's core business.
  • • You will be part of a dynamic team in our Bangalore office, contributing to a hybrid work model that balances remote flexibility with in-person collaboration.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of software quality engineering, with a strong emphasis on innovation, automation, and the application of emerging AI technologies to solve real-world engineering problems.
