- • **Why This Role Matters**: As a **Senior Software Engineer** at Obsidian Security, you will play a pivotal role in securing the SaaS applications that power modern businesses—such as Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and hundreds of others. Obsidian is at the forefront of transforming SaaS security, particularly in the era of agentic AI, and your work will directly impact how enterprises detect, respond to, and prevent breaches in their SaaS environments. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the future of cybersecurity for global enterprises, including Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies, while working alongside industry leaders who have defined categories like endpoint and identity security at companies like CrowdStrike, Okta, and Carbon Black.
- • **Day-to-Day Responsibilities**:
- • **Own End-to-End Product Development**: You will take ownership of features and system improvements from problem definition through production deployment. This includes designing and building backend services, APIs, data processing workflows, integrations, and product-facing capabilities that help customers understand activity, risk, and threats across their SaaS environments.
- • **Collaborate Cross-Functionally**: Work closely with product managers, designers, security researchers, and fellow engineers to translate customer needs into shipped software. Your role will involve bridging gaps between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities and execution.
- • **Enhance System Performance and Reliability**: Improve the performance, scalability, observability, and reliability of existing systems. This includes debugging production issues and implementing durable fixes rather than short-term patches, ensuring that Obsidian’s platform remains robust and resilient.
- • **Make Technical Decisions**: You will be expected to make practical technical decisions, weighing tradeoffs between speed, scalability, security, and maintainability. Your ability to articulate these tradeoffs clearly will be critical in guiding the team toward optimal solutions.
- • **Mentor and Elevate Engineering Standards**: Contribute to raising engineering standards through code reviews, design discussions, mentoring junior engineers, and documenting best practices. Your leadership will help shape the technical culture and ensure high-quality output across the team.
- • **Leverage AI Tools Effectively**: As an AI-forward engineering organization, you will use AI-powered tools to improve development efficiency while maintaining high standards for correctness, security, and maintainability. This includes critically evaluating AI-generated outputs and integrating AI/ML concepts (e.g., LLMs, embeddings, vector databases) into Obsidian’s systems.
- • **About Obsidian Security**:
- • Obsidian Security was founded in 2017 to address a critical gap in cybersecurity: securing SaaS applications where modern business operations occur. Backed by top investors like Greylock, Norwest Venture Partners, and IVP, Obsidian has built a comprehensive SaaS security platform that reduces risk, detects threats, and prevents breaches at their source. The company is trusted by global enterprises such as Snowflake, T-Mobile, and Pure Storage, protecting over 200 organizations worldwide.
- • Obsidian is scaling rapidly, with strong global momentum, a growing partner ecosystem (including SentinelOne, Databricks, and Google Cloud), and a trajectory toward long-term growth and IPO readiness. Joining Obsidian means being part of a team that is defining the future of SaaS security in an era of AI-driven innovation.
- • **What You Can Learn and Achieve**:
- • **Career Growth**: This role offers significant opportunities for professional development, including leadership in technical decision-making, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration. You will work on cutting-edge problems in SaaS security, identity, data movement, and AI usage, gaining expertise that is highly relevant in today’s cybersecurity landscape.
- • **Impact**: Your work will have a direct and measurable impact on Obsidian’s core security product, which is used by enterprises worldwide. You will contribute to solving real-world security challenges, such as detecting and responding to threats in SaaS environments, and help shape the product’s evolution in response to emerging trends like AI-driven attacks.
