Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end design, development, unit testing, implementation, and documentation of observability solutions that directly improve the experience of millions of students and thousands of educational institutions. You will craft full-stack applications in React, TypeScript, and Node.js that surface actionable insights from terabytes of telemetry data.
- • Build elegant, high-impact visualizations and alerting systems that allow product teams to gauge real-time user experience, detect anomalies, and respond before issues affect learners. Your dashboards will become the single pane of glass for health, performance, and cost across College Board’s digital ecosystem.
- • Architect and deliver event-driven, serverless applications on AWS using Lambda, SNS, SQS, S3, Step Functions, DynamoDB, and CloudWatch. You will apply Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/CDK) and CI/CD best practices to automate the entire infrastructure lifecycle and ensure immutable, repeatable deployments.
- • Partner daily with Delivery Engineers, Security, Infrastructure, Network, and Operations SMEs to translate complex business objectives into resilient cloud architectures. You will influence the Enterprise Architecture Review process and help set the technical direction for the broader Cloud Engineering Program.
- • Continuously research emerging observability standards, open-source projects, and AI-driven analytics tools; run proof-of-concepts and champion adoption when they reduce cost, improve signal quality, or enhance developer productivity.
- • Contribute clean, well-tested code to internal tooling that empowers 100+ development teams to self-serve logs, metrics, traces, and synthetic monitoring. Your libraries and CLIs will reduce onboarding time from days to minutes.
- • Mentor and upskill teammates through pair programming, brown-bag sessions, and reusable training materials. You will design runbooks and architecture decision records so the team can operate seamlessly during your PTO.
- • Participate fully in agile ceremonies—Sprint Planning, Grooming, Daily Scrum, Demos, and Retros—while maintaining a sustainable pace and a culture of psychological safety.
- • Act as a first responder to production incidents, leveraging your deep knowledge of distributed systems to perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive measures that improve mean time to recovery (MTTR).
- • Champion College Board’s four Operating Principles: Prioritize and Simplify, Say and Receive, Go for Greatness, and Lead as One College Board. Your decisions will be data-informed, transparent, and inclusive.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2 recent years hands-on with React, TypeScript, and/or Node.js in production environments.
- • Proven expertise building and operating distributed, event-driven, serverless applications on AWS (Lambda, SNS, SQS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, IAM, VPC, etc.).
- • Demonstrated proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation), CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices including automated testing, blue-green deployments, and observability-driven development.
- • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills—able to present complex technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders in clear, user-friendly language.
- • Nice-to-have: experience designing or consuming REST/GraphQL APIs and familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar data-visualization platforms.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary range of $150,000–$163,000, adjusted for location and experience, with annual performance bonuses and merit-based raises.
- • Fully remote-first workplace with flexible core EST hours, generous PTO, and a culture that respects work-life balance.
- • Mission-driven environment where your code directly impacts educational equity for over 7 million students each year.
- • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and professional development stipends to keep your skills sharp.
