• We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (AI-Native) to join our core technical team, working remotely across India with a required 4-8 hour daily overlap with the US Pacific time zone (approximately 2pm-12am IST).
• This is a pivotal role for an engineer who is not content with simply executing assigned tasks but is driven to take ownership and architect significant parts of our platform.
• The Lead Engineer, who serves as the technical backbone of Zenara Health, currently oversees critical subsystems including billing, FHIR/EHR integration, the product frontend, the claims lifecycle, and clinical workflow architecture.
• While exceptionally talented, the Lead Engineer requires a strong counterpart to accelerate development and share technical leadership.
• This position is designed for an individual who can rapidly absorb complex technical knowledge, collaborate effectively, and assume full ownership of entire subsystems within their first 90 days.
• Your progression will be swift: starting as an apprentice in month one, moving to co-owner in month two, full owner in month three, and evolving into an architect role from month four onwards.
• This is not a role for a junior engineer with a senior title; we are looking for seasoned professionals with a proven track record of delivering complex, production-ready SaaS applications.
• You must possess an architectural mindset, thinking beyond lines of code to design scalable, maintainable, and robust systems.
• A key expectation is the skillful utilization of AI development tools, enabling you to achieve development speeds two to three times faster than conventional engineers.
• Daily engagement with AI assistants like Claude Code or GitHub Copilot is not just preferred but essential for keeping pace with our development velocity.
• As the Founder-CEO is a physician, you will gain invaluable, organic insights into the healthcare domain, including billing codes, intricate clinical workflows, and critical HIPAA regulations.
• While we can guide you on healthcare specifics, we cannot teach engineering intuition—the critical ability to discern when to refactor versus when to ship, the skill to design systems maintainable by others, and the proactive initiative to drive results without constant supervision.
• Your responsibilities will encompass understanding and taking ownership of the most intricate and essential components of our healthcare platform.
• You will collaborate closely with the Lead Engineer to co-architect and evolve our technology stack.
• You will contribute to the development of new AI-driven features and products that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
• You will be instrumental in ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our platform as we grow.
• You will participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical decision-making processes.
• You will be expected to write clean, well-documented, and efficient code.
• You will leverage AI tools to accelerate your development workflow, from code generation and debugging to documentation and testing.

• You will work with modern technologies including TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Prisma ORM, and PostgreSQL.

🎯 Requirements

• 4-8 years of experience in full-stack software engineering, specifically shipping production SaaS applications.
• Deep proficiency in TypeScript, thinking architecturally with concepts like generics, utility types, strict mode, and discriminated unions.
• Proven experience with React and Next.js in production environments, including SSR, API routes, dynamic routing, and performance optimization.
• Strong Node.js backend skills, including REST APIs, authentication, middleware, error handling, and background job management.
• Hands-on experience with Prisma ORM and PostgreSQL, covering schema design, migrations, query optimization, and relation modeling.
• Mastery of Git, including branching strategies, clean commit history, PR workflows, and rebasing.
• Demonstrated experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) used daily and the ability to articulate their impact on your workflow.
• A self-motivated work style with the ability to identify needs and execute without direct task assignment.
• Excellent English communication skills, with an async-first approach for clear written documentation, PR descriptions, and technical decision records.
• Experience with healthcare SaaS (e.g., billing, EHR, clinical workflows, HIPAA compliance) is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with FHIR/HL7 standards is a strong preference.
• Knowledge of Server-Sent Events (SSE) or WebSocket real-time architecture is a strong preference.
• Understanding of multi-tenant SaaS security (e.g., RBAC, row-level security, tenant isolation) is a strong preference.
• Experience with Azure cloud services (App Service, Azure SQL, Blob Storage) is a strong preference.
• Ability to quickly learn complex domain knowledge from subject matter experts is a strong preference.
• Knowledge of behavioral health or medical billing is nice to have.
• Experience with AI/ML pipeline integration is nice to have.
• Familiarity with startup environments, comfortable with ambiguity and rapid pivots, is nice to have.
• Experience working in a very small engineering team is nice to have.
• Familiarity with medical billing codes (CPT, ICD-10) is nice to have.
