📋 Description

• We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Protection team, which plays a key role in helping merchants handle disputes and prevent fraud.
• The Protection team owns the risk management suite that surfaces these threats, and helps merchants build automation to handle them at scale.
• As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for moving across the backend and, where needed, supporting development of our new dashboard frontend.
• You will also be architecting and building the automation merchants need to handle payment disputes at scale, expanding our dispute coverage from five PSPs to the rest of Primer's network, and working directly with third-party fraud vendors to build a unified comparison and switching experience.
• Additionally, you will be designing and shipping the native rules and signals engine, making early architecture calls, and partnering closely with the EM and Product to turn merchant pain into automation that ships, not just tickets.
• We are looking for someone with experience owning backend systems end-to-end, comfortable designing systems from scratch, and strong architecture and code-quality instincts.
• You should also be proactive and looking to ship early and often, with a history of setting and maintaining a high bar for quality in shipping.
• Nice to have, not required, are exposure to card scheme rules, chargeback workflows, or fraud vendor integrations, experience with webhook-based event systems, rules engines, or orchestration platforms, and willingness to pick up frontend work as needed.
• This team is new enough that some structure will be built alongside doing the actual work, and real ambiguity in the early days means you will be deciding what 'good' looks like before anyone else has an opinion.
• A handful of people today, so your individual output is highly visible.
