As a Senior Software Engineer on the Exchange team, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the core infrastructure that powers one of the world's most robust and trusted crypto trading platforms.
• This role offers a unique opportunity to work on highly complex, mission-critical systems, including the matching engine, market data gateways, internal and external APIs, and margin systems. You will be at the forefront of innovation, designing and implementing solutions that ensure low-latency, high-availability, and exceptional performance under heavy transaction volumes.
• Your primary focus will be on developing and maintaining core framework and key software components for Kraken's trading engine, ensuring its stability, scalability, and efficiency. This involves writing clean, reusable, testable, and efficient code in modern C++, adhering to best practices and contributing to a high-quality codebase.
• You will be responsible for building and designing solutions that not only enhance performance but also critically mitigate risk, implement robust security measures, and protect both systems and sensitive user data. This requires a deep understanding of distributed systems and a commitment to security-first development.
• A significant aspect of this role involves improving site performance by designing and implementing low-latency and high-availability applications. You will tackle challenges related to network latency, system throughput, and real-time data processing to ensure Kraken's trading platform remains competitive and responsive.
• You will construct dynamically scalable platforms capable of handling immense transaction volumes. This means architecting systems that can seamlessly grow and adapt to fluctuating market demands and user activity without compromising performance or reliability.
• Collaboration is key. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to contribute to the product roadmap and deliver innovative features that meet the evolving needs of our global user base.

• Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and approaches to enhance our trading platform's capabilities and user experience.
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, security protocols, and performance benchmarks.
• Play a key role in architectural discussions and decision-making processes for new features and system enhancements.
• Contribute to the documentation of system designs, APIs, and operational procedures.
• Work on systems that handle millions of transactions per day, requiring meticulous attention to detail and a focus on performance and reliability.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience working with modern C++.
• Proven experience in building and maintaining distributed and/or highly-concurrent systems, preferably in low-latency and/or high-volume transaction environments, using Linux.
• Demonstrated knowledge of order types, trading systems, and financial products is highly desirable.
• Experience profiling and optimizing code for CPU, memory, and network performance.
