- • Flock Safety is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our innovative team and play a pivotal role in advancing our cutting-edge cellular connectivity solutions. As a leader in safety technology, Flock Safety is dedicated to building a nationwide public-private safety network that empowers communities, law enforcement, businesses, and neighborhoods to proactively prevent crime and enhance security. Our platform, trusted by thousands of organizations and law enforcement agencies, leverages advanced hardware and software to deliver real-time intelligence while upholding the highest standards of privacy and responsible innovation. We are a fast-paced, high-performance organization fueled by a passion for tackling complex challenges, fostering collaboration, and embracing bold ideas. If you are driven by a desire to make a significant impact and thrive in an environment that encourages continuous improvement and ownership, Flock Safety offers a deeply rewarding career opportunity.
- • In this critical role, you will be instrumental in owning and significantly enhancing our integrated 5G connectivity solution, spanning the entire technology stack. You will work directly with state-of-the-art cellular modems, architecting and implementing the crucial bridge between our advanced drone hardware and our sophisticated web-based systems. This position demands a technical leader who can drive innovation and ensure the reliability and performance of our communication infrastructure.
- • Your responsibilities will encompass leading advanced integration efforts, including driving the implementation of 5G features across radio firmware, device drivers, and user-space applications. You will be at the forefront of optimizing multi-link cellular performance, skillfully integrating multiple cellular radio links into a single, robust data stream. This optimization will focus on maximizing capacity, minimizing latency, and intelligently allocating data across available radio links to ensure seamless and efficient communication.
- • A key aspect of this role involves architecting and implementing cloud connectivity solutions within the cellular system. You will be responsible for optimizing critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that are essential for maintaining flight reliability and operational integrity. This includes ensuring that our cellular systems are not only functional but also highly performant and dependable under various conditions.
- • You will embody full ownership of the cellular setup, from defining and establishing precise performance metrics to meticulously monitoring and analyzing real-world test results. This end-to-end responsibility ensures that every facet of the cellular system meets our stringent quality and performance benchmarks.
- • Collaboration is paramount in this role. You will work closely and effectively with our cross-functional teams, including RF engineers, Systems engineers, Device Software engineers, and Cloud engineers. This collaborative approach is vital for building out and validating these complex, integrated systems, ensuring a cohesive and high-performing product.
- • The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, coupled with over 5 years of hands-on experience in cellular firmware and user-space design. Proficiency in C, C++, and Python is a mandatory requirement, alongside demonstrated exceptional communication skills, encompassing verbal, written, and presentation abilities. Excellent teamwork skills are essential, with a proven track record of successful collaboration within cross-functional teams to achieve timely project success.
- • While not strictly required, knowledge of wireless standards, particularly 3GPP, would be highly advantageous. Experience with commercial connectivity devices, such as mobile and IoT devices, as well as specific experience with recent Qualcomm cellular radio systems and the general software stack for wireless products, would further strengthen your candidacy. Familiarity with database software like Databricks or Snowflake is also considered a valuable asset.
- • This is a remote-first position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the USA. However, it does include quarterly travel to our Engineering Center in Atlanta, GA, for essential hands-on collaboration, in-depth team engagement, and critical field testing. This blend of remote work and in-person collaboration ensures both flexibility and effective teamwork.
- • Upon joining, you will be guided by a structured 90-day plan designed to facilitate your integration and success. The initial 30 days will focus on familiarizing yourself with Flock products and lab operations, including integrating an off-the-shelf radio into our drone-web system. The first 60 days will involve completing the extraction of radio and link statistics and storing them in an agreed-upon database, alongside architecting multi-link operation for cellular connectivity. By 90 days and beyond, you will be expected to complete an initial design for rate adaptation for cellular operation and explore its real-world performance, demonstrating your impact and contribution to the team's objectives.
