• In today's rapidly evolving cloud landscape, managing databases like PostgreSQL, with its hundreds of configuration parameters, presents a significant challenge. Even experienced professionals often struggle to achieve optimal performance and efficiency. Our mission is to eliminate this complexity by creating intelligent systems that continuously self-optimize in the background. This role offers the unique opportunity to work on a greenfield project with substantial impact, developing sophisticated algorithms and services that will redefine how companies manage their database infrastructure.
• As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and operating cutting-edge database optimization services. Your work will directly contribute to creating intelligent systems that analyze query performance, recommend optimal indexing strategies, and implement automated tuning solutions. The ultimate goal is to deliver tangible cost savings and performance improvements for our diverse customer base, which includes industry leaders like Akamai, BMW, Cisco, and HuggingFace.
• You will delve into the fundamental workings of databases, exploring aspects such as transaction management, wire protocols, Write-Ahead Logging (WAL), query planning, and indexing mechanisms. This deep understanding will be crucial for developing robust and effective optimization features. Your responsibilities will include extending and maintaining integrations with PostgreSQL and MySQL, as well as cloud-managed services like AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, and Azure Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL. This requires a nuanced approach to understanding and interacting with these diverse database environments.
• A significant part of your role will involve developing advanced algorithms for query parsing, plan analysis, and the generation of actionable optimization recommendations. You will build monitoring and alerting systems to track key database performance metrics, ensure connection health, and provide visibility into cost implications. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to shape the public and internal APIs for these services, prioritizing simplicity and an exceptional developer experience for both internal teams and external users.
• Collaboration is key to our success. You will actively participate in design reviews and code reviews, ensuring the highest quality of our software. 🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience working with and troubleshooting PostgreSQL and/or MySQL in production environments.
• Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting database-related issues, whether as a DBA, backend engineer, SRE, or in a similar role where you've debugged slow queries, optimized indexes, or resolved production database problems.
• Strong programming skills in Go and/or C++, with a willingness to work with both languages.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of troubleshooting complex issues in production environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
