  • • As a Senior Software Engineer I on Axon’s Connected Devices Cloud team, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, developing, and evolving the cloud services that power the next generation of connected devices for first responders. This is a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction of critical systems that directly impact public safety and the lives of those who serve.
  • • You will be instrumental in designing and implementing highly-available, low-latency distributed systems, transforming complex, data-intensive challenges into elegant, robust, and scalable solutions. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the reliability and performance of systems that are mission-critical.
  • • This role demands strong technical leadership, with the ability to influence multiple engineering teams and drive improvements across the connected devices ecosystem. You will be a key contributor to shaping products that make a tangible difference in the field, ensuring first responders have the reliable technology they need.
  • • You will take ownership of system design and architecture for large-scale, Kubernetes-based services. This includes making critical decisions regarding deployment patterns, auto-scaling strategies, resource orchestration, and the implementation of operational automation to ensure efficiency and resilience.
  • • Setting the technical bar is a core responsibility. You will be expected to write well-tested, maintainable code, conduct rigorous code and design reviews, and actively champion engineering best practices across Axon. Your commitment to quality will elevate the standards for the entire team.
  • • You will guide cross-team initiatives, facilitating design and specification reviews, mentoring engineers at various levels, and driving pillar-wide improvements in reliability, performance, and operational efficiency. Your ability to collaborate and uplift others will be essential.
  • • Owning the availability and performance of services is paramount. You will shape service capacity planning, optimize resource tuning (CPU/memory), define SLO/SLA targets, and implement resilience patterns for mission-critical workloads, ensuring our systems are always operational and performant.
  • • You will advance our DevOps stack by evolving secure, repeatable CI/CD pipelines using tools like ArgoCD and Terraform, and integrating robust observability solutions to monitor system health and performance.
  • • Collaboration is key. You will work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and partner engineering groups to craft integrated solutions that delight customers in public safety and beyond, ensuring our technology meets their evolving needs.
  • • You will act as a culture carrier, modeling a growth mindset, inclusive collaboration, and a relentless pursuit of Axon’s mission to Protect Life. You will also leverage modern AI tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT to accelerate development workflows, enhance productivity, and support decision-making, documentation, and problem-solving, staying at the forefront of technological advancement.
  • • This role offers the chance to work with a passionate, mission-driven group of individuals dedicated to positively impacting the lives of first responders and the communities they serve. You will contribute to a culture that values innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to making the world a safer place.
  • • You will be responsible for ensuring that our connected devices and their supporting cloud infrastructure are secure, reliable, and performant, meeting the demanding requirements of public safety professionals. This includes understanding and mitigating potential risks associated with connected devices and cloud-based data processing.
  • • Your contributions will directly impact the development of cutting-edge technologies that enhance situational awareness, improve communication, and ensure the safety of officers and the public. You will be at the forefront of innovation in the public safety technology sector.
  • • You will have the opportunity to mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow their skills and contribute effectively to the team's success. This mentorship aspect is crucial for building a strong, capable engineering organization.
  • • The role involves deep dives into system performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing optimizations to ensure our services can handle increasing loads and complex data streams efficiently. This requires a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • • You will be involved in defining and refining the technical roadmap for connected devices, ensuring alignment with product strategy and business objectives. Your input will shape the future direction of Axon's innovative product offerings.
  • • You will contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement, staying abreast of the latest trends and technologies in cloud computing, distributed systems, and IoT, and evaluating their potential application within Axon's ecosystem.
  • • This position requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical debt, ensuring the long-term maintainability and scalability of our systems. You will be empowered to make decisions that balance immediate needs with future architectural integrity.
  • • You will collaborate with security teams to ensure that all cloud services and connected device integrations adhere to the highest security standards, protecting sensitive data and ensuring the integrity of our systems.
  • • The role emphasizes a hands-on approach, where you will not only design and architect but also actively participate in coding, debugging, and deploying solutions, ensuring a deep understanding of the systems you are responsible for.
  • • You will be a key voice in technical discussions, advocating for best practices, sound architectural principles, and innovative solutions that align with Axon's mission and values.
  • • Your work will directly contribute to Axon's ecosystem of devices and cloud software, creating a seamless and powerful experience for first responders.
  • • You will be part of a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where you can take ownership, drive real change, and constantly grow your skills while working on a mission that truly matters.
