  • • Join Twilio, a global leader in communications, as a Senior Software Engineer on the Audiences & Journeys team, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of personalized customer experiences. This is a unique opportunity to work remotely within the US and contribute to a company that empowers hundreds of thousands of businesses and millions of developers worldwide.
  • • At Twilio, we are at the forefront of innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance our products and services. Our commitment to a remote-first work environment fosters a culture of connection, global inclusion, and diverse experiences, ensuring that every team member, regardless of location, feels like a vital part of a vibrant and impactful team.
  • • This specific role is crucial for building and scaling the APIs that underpin Twilio's Audiences & Journeys products. These products are designed to enable Twilio developers to unlock best-in-class personalized customer experiences. You will be instrumental in developing the core infrastructure that allows businesses to understand and engage with their customers more effectively.
  • • As a Software Engineer on the Audiences & Journeys team, you will collaborate closely with product management, architecture, and other engineering teams. Your primary focus will be on designing robust APIs, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, optimizing data models, and driving system-level improvements. The goal is to enhance both developer velocity and the end-customer experience.
  • • You will be expected to critically evaluate and clearly communicate the trade-offs between feature velocity, system stability, and technical debt. Your insights will help drive key architectural decisions, ensuring the long-term sustainability, scalability, and high performance of our platforms.
  • • The Audiences & Journeys products are at the cutting edge of customer data platforms (CDP), handling an immense volume of data – over 12 trillion API calls annually. You will be working with sophisticated systems that manage and process this data to deliver personalized customer journeys.
  • • We operate in a fast-paced environment, iterating quickly on products and features, and embracing continuous learning. You will be writing high-quality code, utilizing the latest AI tools to boost productivity, and working closely with product and design teams to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • • Your responsibilities will include designing and building scalable backend systems and APIs that are fundamental to audience creation, segmentation, and activation across Segment’s data platform. You will also collaborate cross-functionally to define solutions that strike a balance between usability, performance, and long-term architectural vision.
  • • Effective communication of technical decisions is paramount. You will articulate trade-offs, the impact on customers, and ensure team alignment on technical strategies. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning within the team.
  • • You will be involved in troubleshooting and improving system reliability, debugging complex issues, and refining operational tooling and processes. Participation in an on-call rotation for our managed services is also a key aspect of this role, ensuring the stability and availability of our critical systems.
  • • This role offers the chance to work on products with significant customer impact, solving some of the most challenging engineering problems in the data and AI space. If you are passionate about building impactful products and thrive in a dynamic, innovative environment, this is the ideal position for you.
  • • We encourage candidates with diverse experiences to apply. While specific qualifications are listed, we value alternative experiences and believe that unique perspectives contribute to our success. If you are driven, innovative, and eager to make a difference, we want to hear from you.
  • • You will leverage best-in-class development productivity practices, including the adoption and utilization of AI tooling, to enhance your workflow and deliver exceptional results.
  • • Twilio is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We believe in empowering our employees to build positive change in their communities and support their volunteering and donation efforts. Join us to unleash your full potential and do your best work.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5-10 years of experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language (e.g., Go, Java, Python).
  • • Proven experience operating large-scale, distributed systems on cloud infrastructure, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • • Hands-on experience with container orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes, EKS, or ECS.
  • • Experience with large-scale asynchronous processing systems and shipping services using a CI/CD development paradigm.
  • • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive salary and eligibility for Twilio's equity and corporate bonus plans.
  • • Comprehensive health care insurance, 401(k) retirement savings program, and generous paid time off (sick, personal, and parental leave).
  • • Opportunity to work remotely within the US in a company that champions a remote-first culture and global inclusion.
  • • Professional development opportunities, including mentorship, continuous learning, and the chance to work with cutting-edge AI tools and technologies.
