Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end architecture of Managed Sync, the beating heart of Paragon’s integration platform. You will design and evolve ingestion pipelines that process millions of records per hour from file-storage, CRM, document, and other SaaS APIs, turning messy third-party data into clean, queryable Synced Objects that power RAG applications, analytics dashboards, and bidirectional sync use cases.
- • Architect and implement high-throughput backend services in TypeScript (NestJS) on Kubernetes, leveraging Postgres for durable storage, Redis for caching and coordination, and Kafka for event-driven orchestration. You will decide how topics are partitioned, how schemas evolve, and how we guarantee exactly-once semantics across distributed workers.
- • Lead the integration of new third-party APIs from scratch—OAuth2 handshake, pagination strategies, rate-limit backoff, webhook verification, and delta-change detection—then generalize those patterns into reusable connectors so future integrations ship in days, not weeks.
- • Model Synced Object schemas that can faithfully represent sprawling external systems (think Salesforce with 800+ tables or Google Drive with deeply nested folder hierarchies) while remaining fast to query and cheap to store. You will balance normalization vs. denormalization, choose indexing strategies, and evolve schemas without breaking downstream customers.
- • Build bulletproof batch and incremental sync flows that gracefully handle backfills of 100M-row tables, resume after outages, and guarantee idempotent writes. You will implement dead-letter queues, exponential back-off, circuit breakers, and per-customer SLOs that keep our error budget green.
- • Raise the reliability bar across the stack: define SLIs/SLOs, instrument everything with OpenTelemetry, build Grafana dashboards that scream before customers notice, and run weekly game-day drills to prove our pipelines can survive region failovers and noisy-neighbor APIs.
- • Collaborate daily with Product, Design, and Go-to-Market to translate customer pain points—"I need my Notion pages vectorized for RAG within 30 seconds of edit" or "I want a Snowflake mirror of HubSpot that respects custom object permissions"—into crisp technical specs and iterative roadmaps.
- • Partner with the Permissions & Auth team to embed fine-grained authorization into every sync: propagate OAuth scopes, enforce row-level ACLs, and ensure that a customer’s data never leaks across tenants—even when APIs return ambiguous or undocumented permission metadata.
- • Provide technical leadership for a tight-knit team: run architecture reviews, pair-program on gnarly race conditions, mentor mid-level engineers, and champion engineering standards that let us move fast without breaking things. Your design docs will become the blueprint for how Paragon scales to 10× data volume next year.
- • Debug live production issues alongside on-call rotations, diving deep into distributed traces, Postgres locks, or Kafka consumer lag to root-cause why a customer’s 2 a.m. backfill stalled—and ship the fix before their morning coffee.
- • Influence the long-term vision of Managed Sync: propose new products such as real-time streaming syncs, customer-facing transformation DSLs, or usage-based pricing telemetry that turns our infrastructure into a growth lever for the business.
- • Champion a culture of customer empathy. You will join customer calls, read NPS feedback, and occasionally jump into Slack threads to unblock power users, ensuring the code you ship solves real-world problems and delights developers who rely on Paragon every day.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years shipping and operating backend systems in production, with expert-level TypeScript/Node.js (NestJS or similar) and deep Postgres expertise including schema design, indexing, and query optimization
- • Proven track record integrating dozens of third-party SaaS APIs—OAuth2, pagination, rate limits, webhooks, retries—and owning the full connector lifecycle from discovery to deprecation
- • Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka: topic design, schema evolution, exactly-once processing, DLQs, and out-of-order event handling
- • Production-grade Kubernetes operations: containerization, Helm charts, autoscaling, resource tuning, and incident response in a cloud-native environment
- • Demonstrated technical leadership: driving cross-team initiatives, mentoring engineers, writing architecture decision records, and influencing engineering culture
- • Nice-to-have: experience with data ingestion for RAG/AI workloads, ETL/ELT platforms, fine-grained authorization models (RBAC/ABAC), or high-growth startup environments
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in a fast-growing, well-funded startup
- • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly off-sites in exciting locations and a generous home-office stipend
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plus monthly wellness and mental-health allowances
- • Flexible PTO policy with a minimum-vacation requirement and two company-wide recharge weeks per year
