📋 Description

  • Standard Bots is on a mission to revolutionize automation by dramatically lowering the barrier to entry for real-world applications. We aim to bring the power of digital systems to the physical world, unlocking unprecedented productivity for a wide array of industries and users. Our innovative user-facing applications and robust APIs are designed to empower individuals and developers alike, enabling them to directly address their automation challenges without requiring specialized expertise in robotics or complex engineering backgrounds. This relentless focus on simplicity, intuitive design, and ease of use is at the core of our strategy to democratize automation and bring its transformative potential to new markets and users.
  • As a Senior Software Engineer for Manufacturing Systems, you will play a pivotal role in architecting and building the foundational systems that power our advanced manufacturing operations. This includes developing and refining our core manufacturing execution systems (MES), material requirements planning (MRP), inventory management, work order orchestration, and production tracking capabilities. A key aspect of this role involves tightly integrating these digital systems with our cutting-edge robotic arms and factory-floor hardware.
  • You will be responsible for designing and implementing sophisticated software solutions that directly orchestrate complex physical production workflows. This involves creating seamless connections between digital systems and real-world hardware, ensuring the highest levels of reliability, traceability, and operational excellence across our entire manufacturing technology stack. Your work will directly impact the efficiency, scalability, and success of our production lines.
  • Key responsibilities include:
  • Designing, developing, and evolving our internal MRP and MES systems. This encompasses managing intricate Bills of Materials (BOMs), real-time inventory levels, production scheduling, and the end-to-end production workflows that drive our manufacturing processes.
  • Building and maintaining robust APIs and microservices that serve as the critical interface between our software platforms and our robotic systems, as well as other factory-floor tooling and equipment.
  • Developing and implementing real-time, event-driven systems designed to provide comprehensive production visibility, ensure end-to-end traceability of all manufactured goods, and maintain the integrity and accuracy of production data.
  • Collaborating closely and proactively with our manufacturing, robotics, and operations teams. This partnership is essential for translating intricate physical workflows and operational requirements into elegant, robust, and scalable software abstractions.
  • Architecting and implementing systems that inherently prioritize reliability, correctness, and maximum uptime, recognizing the critical nature of these systems in a live production environment.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of our software development practices, including code reviews, testing strategies, and deployment pipelines, ensuring high-quality and maintainable code.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and sharing best practices, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning within the team.
  • Investigating and resolving complex technical issues that may arise in our production systems, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in manufacturing automation, software engineering, and cloud infrastructure, and identifying opportunities to leverage them for Standard Bots.
  • Participating in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensuring that all developed software adheres to security best practices and data privacy regulations.
  • Contributing to the technical roadmap and strategic planning for Standard Bots' manufacturing systems.
  • Optimizing system performance and resource utilization to ensure cost-effectiveness and scalability.
  • Developing comprehensive documentation for system designs, APIs, and operational procedures.
  • Working with a full-stack mindset, contributing to both back-end services and front-end interfaces as needed, fostering a versatile and adaptable engineering team.
  • Our current technology stack includes:
  • Front-end: React, Typescript
  • Back-end: Node.js, Python
  • Database: PostgreSQL
  • Infrastructure: GCP, AWS, GraphQL, REST, Kubernetes, Docker
  • We are looking for engineers who are self-driven, optimistic, creative, and resourceful. While a background in robotics is not required, we highly value candidates who are excited by the domain and eager to apply their existing expertise in a new and challenging area. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with approximately 50% back-end and 50% front-end work, with the flexibility to adapt based on project needs and team priorities. Your ability to communicate clearly, drive for impact, and embrace simplicity will be key to your success in this dynamic and ambitious environment.

🎯 Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of working in complex and dynamic environments.
  • Strong proficiency in back-end development using languages such as Node.js or Python, and experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with front-end development, particularly with React and Typescript, and a willingness to engage in both front-end and back-end development (approx. 50/50 split).
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and production-critical software systems, including experience with APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A proactive and impact-driven mindset, with a strong preference for execution and delivering user value over purely theoretical technical solutions.
  • Optimism, creativity, and resourcefulness, with a genuine excitement for tackling new domains and challenges, and a desire to learn and grow.

🏖️ Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $170,000 - $220,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Eligibility for Employee Stock Options, providing an opportunity to share in the company's success.
  • Comprehensive health insurance package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) to support work-life balance.
  • Life insurance and disability insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan to help you plan for the future.
