Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and deliver the next-generation trading and pricing engine that will process tens of millions of meter readings daily, turning raw data into real-time market intelligence that directly influences how green energy is bought, sold and consumed across the UK and Europe.
- • Own the full lifecycle of critical backend services—from white-board domain modelling sessions with energy-market experts, through writing fault-tolerant Python/Django micro-services, to shipping containerised workloads on AWS that scale elastically with demand spikes caused by weather-driven renewable generation.
- • Design and evolve robust REST APIs that expose pricing, risk and forecasting capabilities to internal squads, external utilities and third-party fintech partners, ensuring sub-second latency while guaranteeing data consistency across distributed Postgres clusters.
- • Build asynchronous task pipelines with Celery & Redis that ingest smart-meter data, validate anomalies, enrich with ML-derived insights and publish to downstream billing, CRM and customer-communication systems—literally powering the invoices that 2 million households see every month.
- • Collaborate with data-science teams to productionise machine-learning models that predict consumption, detect fraud and optimise battery-storage dispatch; your code will decide when a solar farm sells power to the grid or charges domestic EVs, shaving carbon peaks in real time.
- • Tackle gnarly regulatory challenges—model complex UK market rules (DUoS, Triad, EAC, REGOs) in code so that pricing calculations remain compliant while still giving customers transparent, fair tariffs that accelerate adoption of heat-pumps and EVs.
- • Champion clean, testable code: write comprehensive unit/integration tests, enforce type safety with mypy, instrument metrics with Prometheus and ensure every pull-request meets the high standards of a team that deploys to production multiple times per day.
- • Mentor mid-level engineers through pair-programming and design reviews, cultivating a culture where knowledge-sharing reduces bus-factor and raises collective technical bar across the Markets platform.
- • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Packer and Consul—spinning up ephemeral environments for feature branches, blue/green deployments for zero-downtime releases and auto-scaling groups that keep costs low while carbon impact shrinks.
- • Explore green-field opportunities in adjacent utilities (water, broadband) by abstracting Kraken’s core platform into reusable domain modules, enabling rapid expansion that multiplies environmental benefits beyond energy alone.
- • Work 100 % remote from anywhere in the UK, Germany, France, Spain or Denmark, with optional quarterly on-sites in London for white-boarding, team dinners and direct feedback from traders and customers who rely on your systems every single day.

About Kraken Technologies Limited
Kraken builds the Kraken platform — a cloud-native, AI-powered operating system for utilities and energy companies that automates the energy supply chain (customer lifecycle, billing/CRM, trading and asset optimisation, migration from legacy systems) to enable faster product innovation, lower operating costs, and support distributed/renewable energy use.
