• We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure team and spearhead the development and evolution of our Machine Learning (ML) Platform. This pivotal role is instrumental in constructing robust, scalable, and developer-centric systems that support the entire ML lifecycle. This includes model experimentation, training, rigorous evaluation, efficient inference, and continuous retraining, all of which are critical for powering our underwriting and other ML-driven products designed to foster small business success.
• In this capacity, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the foundational abstractions and platforms that empower our data scientists to deploy high-quality ML models into production environments swiftly and securely. You will foster close collaboration with our Data Science and Platform Engineering teams, assume end-to-end ownership of the ML platform, and develop sophisticated batch and real-time underwriting infrastructure.
• Your core responsibilities will involve transforming data scientists' experimental notebooks into production-ready software. This entails decomposing training and inference notebooks into reusable, thoroughly tested components, such as libraries, pipelines, and templates, each equipped with clear interfaces and comprehensive documentation. You will architect and implement developer-friendly ML abstractions, including SDKs, CLIs, and templates, designed to simplify the process of defining features, training and evaluating models, and deploying them to either batch or real-time targets with minimal boilerplate code.
• A significant part of your role will be building and scaling our real-time ML inference platform, ensuring low-latency model serving capabilities. You will also expand our batch ML inference infrastructure, focusing on enhancing scheduling, parallelism, cost controls, observability, and implementing robust failure rollback mechanisms for large-scale batch scoring and post-processing operations.
• You will own and enhance our feature store, a critical component for ML model performance. This involves designing both offline and online feature definitions, ensuring high read/write throughput, and maintaining consistent semantics across offline and online environments. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the platform's reliability and observability, instrumenting training and inference processes to meticulously track metrics such as latency, throughput, accuracy, drift, data quality, and cost. This includes building comprehensive alerting systems and dashboards, and actively driving incident response and postmortem analyses.
• Collaboration with the Underwriting infrastructure team is key. You will support production batch and real-time underwriting systems in close partnership with Data Science, contributing to the definition of model interfaces, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), safety checks, and product integrations. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of ML infrastructure at a rapidly growing fintech company dedicated to supporting small businesses.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a significant portion focused on ML platform or MLOps systems (training, deployment, and/or feature pipelines).
• Strong proficiency in Python, coupled with solid software design and testing fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and Spark/PySpark.
• Practical knowledge of ML fundamentals, including probability and statistics, supervised vs. unsupervised learning, bias-variance trade-offs, regularization, feature engineering, model evaluation metrics, validation strategies, and production concerns like drift, stability, and monitoring.
• Expertise with modern data and ML stacks, including AWS, Databricks (workflows, Lakehouse, MLflow registry, Model Serving), and Airflow (or equivalent orchestration tools).
• Proven experience building real-time systems (service design, caching, rate limiting, backpressure) and large-scale batch pipelines.
• Familiarity with feature store concepts (offline/online stores, backfills, point-in-time correctness), model registries, experiment tracking, and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude towards ownership and platform health.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in cross-functional settings.
