• • As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Performance Tuning at Auth0, a product unit of Okta, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of our cutting-edge identity and access management solutions. Auth0 is at the forefront of the Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) space, processing billions of logins monthly and experiencing rapid growth. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining and enhancing our ability to deliver high-performance services at an attractive price point, directly impacting our business success and customer satisfaction.
• • This role is embedded within the Performance Engineering team, a cross-functional group dedicated to the comprehensive investigation, identification, and remediation of performance bottlenecks across our entire distributed system. You will delve into every facet of our technology stack, from the code we write and the datastores we utilize, to our messaging systems, underlying infrastructure, and the intricate points of communication between various system components.
• • Your primary responsibility will be to analyze complex performance issues and develop elegant software solutions to eliminate identified bottlenecks. This involves writing efficient, scalable code primarily in Node.js, with exposure to Golang, for multiple services that form the backbone of our platform, supporting an ever-increasing volume of user authentications.
• • You will be instrumental in driving technical decision-making by authoring clear and concise decision records and RFCs (Request for Comments). These documents will articulate technical trade-offs, proposed approaches, and foster awareness and consensus among engineering teams, ensuring that performance considerations are integrated into architectural and implementation strategies.
• • Collaboration is key in this role. You will work closely with component owners, architects, project managers, and quality assurance teams to champion and implement performance improvements across our diverse technology landscape. This cross-functional partnership ensures a holistic approach to performance optimization.
• • You will partner with Staff-level performance engineers to identify and implement performance enhancements across application architecture, code implementation, and telemetry. This mentorship and collaborative environment will allow you to refine your skills and contribute to the team's collective expertise.
• • A significant aspect of your role will be to cultivate a "shift left" performance culture within the engineering organization. This involves proactively improving knowledge and awareness of performance management techniques, tools, patterns, and solutions. By embedding performance considerations earlier in the software development lifecycle, you will help prevent future bottlenecks and ensure performance is a first-class citizen from the outset.
