đź“‹ Description
- • Join Waymo, a pioneer in autonomous driving technology, on a mission to become the world's most trusted driver. Since our inception as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, we have been dedicated to developing the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to enhance mobility and significantly reduce traffic fatalities. Our fully autonomous ride-hail service is powered by the Waymo Driver, a technology adaptable to various vehicle platforms and product applications. The Waymo Driver has successfully completed over ten million rider-only trips, accumulating more than 100 million miles driven autonomously on public roads and billions of miles in simulation across over 15 U.S. states.
- • As a Senior Software Engineer on the Reasoning Foundations Team, you will play a pivotal role in building horizontal technologies that have a profound and widespread impact across the entire Waymo organization. This team is instrumental in developing the interfaces, infrastructure, and shared technologies that empower the Planner Reasoning system to tackle complex behavioral challenges onboard our autonomous vehicles.
- • In this critical role, you will directly contribute to accelerating the Waymo Driver's performance improvements as Waymo expands its operations into new cities. You will enable over 100 engineers to efficiently develop onboard software and contribute to the evolution of Waymo's sophisticated architecture. Your work will shape the future of autonomous driving by establishing clear interfaces and robust development processes for both developing and debugging the Waymo Driver, impacting development workflows across all of Waymo.
- • You will be a key owner of the onboard infrastructure, a vital component utilized by a 100-person organization dedicated to enhancing the Waymo Driver's capabilities. This involves ensuring the infrastructure is scalable, reliable, and efficient, supporting the complex needs of autonomous driving development.
- • Your responsibilities will include enabling highly efficient workflows that span the entire development lifecycle. This encompasses everything from initial problem identification and rigorous iteration on tooling and infrastructure enhancements to the crucial task of regression monitoring, ensuring the continuous improvement and stability of our systems.
- • You will actively participate in evolving the onboard architecture of the Waymo Driver. This involves designing and developing high-quality, scalable interfaces that are fundamental to the codebase's ability to grow and adapt to future challenges and innovations.
- • This hybrid role requires a deep understanding of software engineering principles and a passion for building robust, high-performance systems. You will collaborate with talented engineers to solve some of the most challenging problems in autonomous driving, pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
- • You will contribute to the core intelligence of the Waymo Driver, focusing on the reasoning and decision-making processes that are essential for safe and effective autonomous navigation. This includes understanding complex scenarios, predicting the behavior of other road users, and making optimal driving decisions in real-time.
- • The role demands a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical debt, optimizing system performance, and ensuring the long-term maintainability and scalability of our software. You will be instrumental in maintaining the high standards of quality and reliability that define the Waymo Driver.
- • You will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, share your expertise, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the team and the broader organization.
- • This position offers a unique chance to work at the forefront of a rapidly evolving industry, making a tangible impact on the future of transportation and mobility. Your contributions will directly influence the safety, efficiency, and accessibility of autonomous driving technology.
🎯 Requirements
- • BS in Computer Science, Robotics, or a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
- • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, with a strong proficiency in C++.
- • Experience with operating systems concepts, including memory management, concurrency, and scheduling.
- • Demonstrated passion and expertise in engineering high-performance, reliable systems, including interface design, infrastructure development, and big-picture solutions engineering.
- • Experience in solving real-world robotics problems (e.g., driving, or similar domains) is a strong plus.
- • Experience designing and implementing real-time, highly reliable systems is preferred.
- • Experience solving ambiguous problems at the intersection of technology and product is advantageous.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary range: $204,000 - $259,000 USD per year.
- • Eligibility for Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program.
- • Participation in Waymo's equity incentive plan.
- • Comprehensive and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
- • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge autonomous driving technology with a significant societal impact.
- • Collaborative and innovative work environment with a team of world-class engineers.
