- • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and robust software systems to power Material Security’s phishing detection and email platform, which serve as the core infrastructure for the company’s active protections.
- • Build distributed systems capable of efficiently handling high-throughput workloads while ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability across global user bases.
- • Ship high-impact features and projects in close collaboration with product and security teams, leveraging modern frameworks and tooling to drive product evolution and technical excellence.
- • Lead the overhauling of existing email platform infrastructure to improve performance, reduce latency, and increase system resilience under heavy load conditions.
- • Actively participate in and contribute to a strong engineering culture through code reviews, architectural discussions, and mentorship of junior and mid-level engineers.
- • Take end-to-end ownership of features from conception to production deployment, including evaluating architectural trade-offs before writing code and monitoring system behavior post-launch.
- • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in at least one mainstream programming language with the ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new languages such as TypeScript.
- • Identify optimal solutions to complex technical problems, balancing speed of delivery with long-term system health and security implications.
- • Exercise technical maturity by anticipating risks in system design and making informed decisions about when to prioritize speed versus reliability in production environments.
- • Demonstrate strong ownership by proactively identifying gaps in system behavior, proposing improvements, and ensuring that shipped code meets production quality standards.
- • Collaborate effectively within a fully remote, high-caliber engineering team with minimal supervision, taking initiative to lead projects without explicit direction.
- • Maintain a competitive, hard-working, and resilient attitude, embracing challenges and learning from failure as part of the iterative development process.
- • Prioritize team success while being willing to take leadership roles when needed, even in ambiguous or rapidly changing technical environments.
- • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, tooling, and engineering practices to elevate the overall quality and velocity of the engineering organization.
- • Ensure all software systems align with Material Security’s mission to provide world-class phishing protection through secure, scalable, and performance-optimized infrastructure.
🎯 Requirements
- • Solid software engineering fundamentals and strong coding ability in at least one mainstream programming language
- • Proven experience designing and maintaining scalable distributed systems handling high-throughput workloads
- • Demonstrated technical maturity in making risk-informed decisions for production-grade software deployment
- • Strong ownership mindset with end-to-end responsibility for features from design through post-launch monitoring
- • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new languages and technologies, including TypeScript
- • Willingness to lead projects with minimal supervision in a remote-first, high-autonomy environment
