- • Design, build, and maintain interactive learning experiences that form the core of Brilliant’s adaptive STEM curriculum, combining pedagogical design with technical precision.
- • Develop APIs and backend systems that enable learning designers to create, iterate, and deploy complex, solvable, and meaningful interactive puzzles at scale.
- • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Content teams to translate educational goals into technical implementations that ensure every interaction is both engaging and educationally valid.
- • Engineer systems that integrate with Brilliant’s LLM-powered content agent and AI tutor, ensuring all generated interactions are accurate, pedagogically sound, and free from misleading or incorrect solutions.
- • Implement rigorous evaluation frameworks to validate the correctness, safety, and educational efficacy of every interactive puzzle, where “almost right” is treated as a critical failure.
- • Optimize performance and scalability of interactive components to deliver seamless experiences across web and mobile platforms for hundreds of thousands of active learners.
- • Contribute to the architecture of a system that dynamically generates and personalizes learning pathways based on user behavior, while maintaining strict guarantees of conceptual accuracy.
- • Participate in core hours (9:30am – 2:30pm Pacific) to enable real-time collaboration with cross-functional teams across time zones, fostering high-trust, high-velocity teamwork.
- • Own end-to-end delivery of interactive features—from concept and prototyping to deployment and post-launch monitoring—ensuring alignment with Brilliant’s standards of excellence and candor.
- • Continuously improve tooling and workflows for content creators, reducing friction between pedagogical intent and technical execution while preserving the integrity of learning outcomes.
- • Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing within a small, elite engineering team focused on high-impact, high-quality outputs.
- • Advocate for technical decisions that prioritize learner outcomes over convenience, ensuring every line of code serves the mission of building better problem solvers.
- • Stay current with advancements in AI-driven education, interactive systems, and pedagogical technology to inform architectural choices and innovation.
- • Participate in the intentional, selective hiring process to uphold Brilliant’s culture of excellence, generosity, and candor.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- • Proven experience building interactive, data-driven web applications with complex state management
- • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, or similar)
- • Experience designing and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs
- • Demonstrated ability to work with AI/LLM systems in production environments
- • Strong understanding of educational technology or adaptive learning systems (preferred)
