📋 Description

• As a Senior Tech CoLead at Scale Army, you will step into a pivotal role, taking ownership of complex data models and the overarching system architecture within a high-volume Ruby on Rails monolith. This position is instrumental in shaping the future of a rapidly scaling telehealth, pharmacy operations, and e-commerce platform, specifically focusing on GLP-1 products. Your expertise will be crucial in designing and evolving the core domain model that supports intricate patient journeys, subscription management, and transactional workflows, ensuring the platform's continued success and scalability.
• You will be at the forefront of architectural leadership, responsible for the design and evolution of critical system components. This includes the foundational data models that underpin patient intake processes, eligibility verification, clinical and operational workflows, as well as the complex logic for carts, checkouts, discounts, subscriptions, and renewals. Your work will directly impact the full order lifecycle, encompassing everything from initial placement through to refunds, retries, and meticulous payment reconciliation, demanding a deep understanding of financial integrity and transactional robustness.
• A significant aspect of this role involves hands-on, full-stack development. You will be actively contributing to the Rails monolith, working across models, controllers, views, and background jobs. A key focus will be on implementing modern, server-driven user experiences using Hotwire, specifically Turbo and Stimulus, to enhance performance and maintainability. Where appropriate, you will also apply targeted React development within the dashboard, ensuring a cohesive and efficient user interface.
• Beyond technical contributions, you will embrace a leadership and collaboration mandate. This includes mentoring a mid-level engineer and future junior developers, fostering their growth and ensuring the team adheres to high standards. You will conduct thorough code reviews, with a particular emphasis on the quality of data modeling and architectural soundness. Your role will involve establishing best practices, patterns, and standards for modules, services, and models across the engineering team, promoting consistency and maintainability.
• Translating complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical designs will be a core responsibility. You will be expected to break down large initiatives into manageable projects and tasks, ensuring efficient project execution. Effective communication of technical trade-offs, risks, and proposed solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders will be paramount. Your ability to influence technical direction and advocate for improved approaches will be highly valued.
• Ensuring production readiness and operational resilience is a critical component of this role. You will design and implement safe, reversible database migrations to minimize risk during deployments. Ownership of background job processing, including the effective utilization of Solid Queue, will be essential for maintaining system performance and reliability. You will also contribute to the platform's observability by integrating with and utilizing tools like Grafana, ensuring proactive monitoring and rapid issue resolution.
• The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of PostgreSQL schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization, essential for handling both high-volume transactional workloads and complex reporting requirements. Experience in evolving live production schemas without causing downtime is a significant advantage, highlighting your ability to manage critical infrastructure with precision.

The position requires availability during U.S. business hours (9 AM - 5 PM PST) and is open to candidates based in LATAM, Africa, and Eastern Europe.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on MVC web frameworks, including deep Ruby on Rails expertise within a substantial monolith.
• Proven experience in data modeling and system architecture, with a track record of evolving live production schemas without downtime, and experience with e-commerce and transactional systems.
• Strong hands-on full-stack development skills across Rails (models, controllers, views, background jobs) and modern frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Hotwire, targeted React).
• Experience leading projects, influencing architecture, mentoring developers, and translating business requirements into technical designs, coupled with strong communication skills.
