📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end design vision and standards for AeroVect’s Autonomous Ground Support Equipment (AGSE) Service, establishing the first design function within the company from the ground up.
• Define and implement design principles, patterns, and a scalable component library for both operator-facing and customer-facing products, ensuring consistency across all user interfaces.
• Set the standard for how autonomy state, system confidence, and exception conditions are visually represented across all user surfaces to build trust and support decision-making.
• Lead hands-on design for Fleet Operations products including remote assistance, dispatch, and fleet monitoring interfaces—designing for high-information-density workflows where real-time data directly impacts safety and operational reliability.
• Design and refine customer-facing dashboards, performance reporting tools, and SLA visibility interfaces used by airlines and airport stakeholders to monitor AGSE performance and service levels.
• Establish a coherent visual and interaction language that respects the distinct contexts of operators and customers while maintaining brand and functional cohesion.
• Partner closely with the Fleet Operations Product Manager to translate complex operator workflows, customer needs, and safety requirements into intuitive, scalable product experiences.
• Conduct direct user research with airline/airport customers and internal ground operations teams through contextual inquiry, operator shadowing, and usability testing to uncover pain points and unmet needs.
• Implement lightweight, fast-paced research practices suitable for an early-stage startup environment, ensuring insights directly inform product requirements and design iterations.
• Translate research findings into actionable design decisions and product specifications that align with engineering capabilities and business goals.
• Collaborate with Engineering teams on front-end implementation standards to ensure design intent is preserved during development, advocating for design quality and usability throughout the build process.
• Review and guide design work across the growing product organization, setting the bar for quality, consistency, and user-centered thinking as the team expands.
• Design for high-stakes, real-time environments where decision latency, information overload, and system ambiguity can impact safety—prioritizing clarity, urgency, and error prevention in interface design.
• Shape how complex autonomy concepts are communicated through interfaces that accommodate varying levels of user confidence and technical familiarity.
• Work with Product, Commercial, and Operations teams to ensure customer-facing surfaces accurately reflect the maturity, reliability, and capabilities of the underlying autonomous service.
• Build and evolve design systems from scratch in the absence of pre-existing frameworks, establishing foundational assets that support future scaling and team growth.
• Ensure all interfaces balance technical accuracy with usability, delivering intuitive experiences for users operating under time pressure, cognitive load, and safety-critical conditions.

🎯 Requirements

• BFA, BS, or equivalent experience in Design, HCI, or a related field
• 5+ years of product design experience owning complex, multi-surface products end-to-end
• Demonstrated experience designing operator-facing or operations tooling where users spend hours in the interface and reliability is non-negotiable
• A strong portfolio showing range across information-dense interfaces, real-time data, and complex workflows
• Proven ability to ship 0 → 1 products in a fast-paced environment without an established design system to lean on
• Experience establishing design standards, component libraries, or design systems from scratch
